Leads and oversees a team within the Data & AI Risk (DAIR), GRM group ensuring the Enterprise Artificial Intelligence (AI) Risk strategies, implementation program and mandated activities are executed / delivered in compliance with the governing regulations, internal policies and procedures, and in support of innovation and business strategy.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge to execute the AI Risk Management Program. 
  • Help VP, Data & AI Risk to shape the Enterprise AI Risk strategies. 
  • Design and implement the AI Risk Program including management of AI Risk Management policies and procedures, and processes. 
  • Establish AI risk management oversight and challenge function to support identification and assessment of AI risk in collaboration with other risk partners.  
  • Lead the roll-out and ongoing execution of the AI Risk Management Program among business lines/corporate offices and geographies, which includes but is not limited to the following: 
  • Develop, refine, and enhance the assigned AI risk framework components, policies, procedures, processes, tools, and metrics with the objective to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the data, analytics. 
  • Ensure AI Risk Management policy enforcement and compliance through appropriate governance and oversight mechanisms 
  • Establish and lead the execution of the 2nd line risk oversight, effective challenge, risk measurement and reporting (NIRAs, RCSA, internal management reports, senior management, and/or Board reports)  
  • Advise and collaborate with CIDA, analytics groups, other partners, and stakeholders with regards to the AI risk management principles, standards, controls, and best practices. 
  • Support CIDA, analytics groups, and other key partners with identification, communication and reporting of relevant AI risk priorities, successes, issues, regulatory expectations. 
  • Guide and influence various stakeholders across the organization to achieve the goals defined in the DAIR and AI Risk Management strategies and programs 
  • Support resolution of risk governance and management issues by driving coordination and alignment. 
  • Lead AI risk awareness events and training sessions on AI risk management framework, policy, 2nd line of defense processes, metrics and reporting. 
  • Provide oversight on the prioritization and remediation plans for AI risk related issues: measure, report and monitor key AI risk indicators, identify compliance gaps and risk issues, guide risk impact-focused gap and issue prioritization and creation of action plans to remediate gaps and issues, monitor plan execution. 
  • Ensure that own and team’s day-to-day activities are conducted in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicate the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout his/her team. 
  • Develop or contribute to ad-hoc reporting to the Board, risk committees, and senior leadership, including the collection of metrics and reports 
  • Act as a thought leader in AI risk governance, representing the organization in various industry forums and panels 
  • Create an environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations within respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

 

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant progressive experience in compliance, risk management, legal or analytics, model or AI governance. 
  • Deep understanding of AI technologies, ML/AI risk management best practices, relevant global laws, regulations, and ethical and risk management standards. 
  • Strong grasp of global and regional AI regulations. 
  • Curious and proactive and agile learner interested in new technology, ML/AI/GenAI/Agentic risk management best practices, trends and developments in data and AI governance. 
  • Experience in leading the development of policies, risk assessments and conducting training programs to establish effective AI risk oversight practice with defined success measures. 
  • Very strong organizational, negotiation, communication, and presentation skills. 
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in collaboration, teamwork, and problem-solving to achieve strategic objectives. 
  • Demonstrated ability to spark innovation and act as a trusted advisor to help teams use AI responsibly.  
  • Degrees in a quantitative field, Business Administration, Computer Science, Data Science or a related discipline an asset.
