You are a dynamic self-started who is accountable for ensuring that the business needs and outcomes of project are met. You are responsible for the management of projects in a manner that optimizes ROI and ensures alignment with the organization’s strategic objectives.  

You have five to ten years’ experience in the financial services industry, managing large complex projects, that have significant IT and operational components, and your business acumen is recognized by your business partners. 

 

Key Accountabilities:

You are accountable for leading the Delivery Team in the following:

  • Provide consulting and guidance on project initiatives including business case preparation and developing creative/alternative approaches to problem resolution. The focus is to be kept on overall business solutions, not on specific packages or technologies.
  • Define project governance, identify senior stakeholders & sponsors to form a steering committee (should it be necessary). Work with Project Sponsor to prepare appropriate material for the Steering Committee.
  • Work with Project Sponsor to establish and manage the scope of the project. Ensure Project Change Notifications are raised where necessary and approved. Identify impacts to the Sponsor.
  • Motivate the Project Team and maintain the momentum of the project against background of changing and occasionally conflicting priorities.
  • Ongoing communication of project status to key stakeholders as required.
  • Ensure the documentation and archiving of project activities, deliverables, tools and findings and for use in future projects

 

Functional Competencies:

  • You have expertise in technology solutions related to the financial industry in order to understand and assess the critical milestones and activities required to cost effectively deliver projects
  • Strong business knowledge is required in order to achieve solutions that best balance technology and process improvement to meet business objectives. You are able to effectively manage multiple projects of varying complexity in a sophisticated matrix management organization.
  • You have expert knowledge of project management tools and methodologies, as well as emerging technologies, product development methodologies and technical architectures pertaining to the area.
  • Advanced relationship management and leadership skills are required to lead and motivate a team that is often not within your direct supervision.  Strong influencing skills and negotiation skills are also critical in order to negotiate with project team members/management to acquire/maintain support and to define priorities with full consideration and awareness of potential impact on business needs and outcomes.
  • Depending on the complexity and business risk of the project(s) assigned, you may manage a delivery team that includes Project Control Officers, SMEs, Business and Technology Team Leaders and others.
  • Budgetary: The Delivery Manager exerts primary control of the approved project budget through monitoring and reporting functions, and through participating in the budget preparation, approval and reporting cycle.

 

Education and Work Experience:

  • Five to ten years experience in the financial services industry, managing large complex projects, that have significant IT and operational components
  • Strong command of project management methodologies
  • PMP designation an asset
  • Formal Project Management Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or technology
