Senior Data Scientist

The AI and Machine Learning team within the Decision Sciences organization at Scotiabank is focused on a single mandate – provide scalable, easily accessible and always-on ML services to augment humans and business applications. With a startup-like culture and an agile approach, the team focuses on rapid development and integration of analytics into all facets of the bank’s work. At an organizational level, the team sits within Scotiabank’s Digital Banking organization which focuses on reimagining the experience of our customers for the digital age.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Process and Technology:

  • Identify and pitch opportunities to drive business value by leveraging AI and Machine Learning across the bank
  • Articulate the solution, propose the right mix of Data Scientists and solicit support from partner teams like Data engineering and DevOps Engineering
  • Participate in a hands-on manner by setting sprint roadmap for the AI solutions, scope for him/herself and others and contributing with hands-on technical development and evaluation/testing of team members’ contributions
  • Drive the process of UAT, Deployment and Integration while working with senior technical and business leaders
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

AI and Machine Learning:

  • Ingest massive volumes of structured and unstructured format data, model, transform and store it in variety of data stores
  • Leverage distributed computing, machine learning and AI techniques for analysis, data mining and modeling
  • Build scalable, RESTful microservices to surface analytics results for stakeholders
  • Create and deploy model and algorithm testing strategies to ensure model predictability holds
  • Prepare detailed documentation to outline data sources, models and algorithms used and developed
  • Present results to business line stakeholders and help drive real data-driven culture

 

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Proven track record of building, deploying and usage of AI/ML solutions for at least 2 years
  • Appetite to remain hands-on with technical work and grow leadership skills in tandem
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to strike long term vision with tactical development and constant measurement and course correction
  • Strong programming fundamentals and knowledge of Python or equivalent (Java/Scala/R)
  • Hands-on experience with structured(SQL) and unstructured(noSQL) datastores, data object models and queries
  • Experience cleaning, transforming and visualizing large data sets working with various data formats (e.g. unstructured logs, XML, JSON, flat files, audio, image)
  • Knowledge of Data tools and ecosystem (e.g., Hive, Sqoop, Spark, Kafka, Tensorflow)
  • Experience with common machine Learning libraries in R, Python, Spark and Deep Learning/AI frameworks
  • Familiarity or experience with deployment mechanisms for machine learning algorithms (one of TIDAL, Docker, DC/OS, Kubernetes)
  • Experience in one or more of following considered an asset: DevOps, SaaS
