Job Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of the Data Quality Labs and  will support bank-wide data management initiatives to understand and document data definitions and data lineage in Canada and other countries ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  The incumbent will play a key part in identifying data quality controls, data gaps, data sharing agreements and service level agreements. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.


Key Accountabilities


  • Work with large data sets, experience working with distributed computing (MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, Pig, Apache Spark, etc).
  • Profile and analyze source data to identify opportunities for data quality interventions.
  • Use sound agile development practices (code reviews, testing, etc) to develop and deliver data products
  • Provide day-to-day support and technical expertise to both technical and non-technical teams
  • Work with data engineers to brainstorm solutions to problems and support others in their goals.
  • Exhibit sound judgement, keen eye for details and tenacity for solving difficult problems.
  • Use strong analytical skills and support use of data for sound decision making.
  • Translate business needs into technical requirements
  • Document data interventions.  This includes but is not limited to: data dictionaries, data flow diagrams, PowerPoint presentations
  • Champions a high performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.



Functional Competencies

  • Demonstrated ability in building and maintaining strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders across the organization
  • Excellent organizational, planning, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Financial Services (Planning/Forecasting/Budgeting) and Technology acumen (AI, Robotics, Automation, Infrastructure, Architecture)
  • Experience programming in R, Python, Java or Scala within a distributed computing environment
  • Strong relational database knowledge and experience programming with SQL, or other data manipulation tools
  • Ability to work in a collaborative cross-functional environment
  • Self-motivated 


Education/ Experiences


  • University degree in computer science or a quantitative field.
  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics/Statistics.
  • 2+ years industry experience with big data technology (Hadoop, Hive, Spark, SQL, Kafka, etc.).
  • Industry experience as a Data Scientist.


  • Business Analysis, Algorithmic decision-making up to and including machine learning.
