Contributes to the overall success of IFRS 9 modelling, analytics, and reporting for Canadian retail and small business portfolios. Ensures specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed and delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Develop and document credit risk models for Canadian retail and small business IFRS 9 provisioning and financial reporting in alignment with internal team timelines and broader Bank project delivery schedules
- Assess the performance of candidate models to ensure that results are accurate and meaningful, and socialize candidate models with stakeholders
- Lead model governance activities including documentation, change management, validation support, remediation of findings, and approval processes
- Provide business requirements and support the stakeholders and technology partners with the implementation and integration of models into Bank processes for quarterly financial reporting, quarterly analytics, ad hoc analysis, and stress testing activities
- Conduct quarterly model performance monitoring and SOX controls, and support model and process reviews performed by auditors and regulators
- Demonstrate intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and practical judgement by diving into data to understand underlying trends, navigating data limitations, continuously experimenting with and finding ways to improve model methodology, and proposing pragmatic solutions to business problems that balance competing demands
- Become a leader, coach, and subject matter expert for junior model developers and help set priorities and roadmaps
- Be flexible, adapt quickly to change, and thrive in an evolving environment. Drive change by continuously improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our processes
- Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
- Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of your respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
- An advanced degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Physics, Engineering or other quantitative disciplines yielding strong modelling and programming skills
- Domain expertise in retail credit risk and IFRS 9 model development acquired through a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to concisely summarize and display data and explain modelling decisions, methodology, and results to stakeholders across a wide variety of functions. Power user of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Demonstrated ability to quickly and effectively identify and solve business and technical problems by: performing appropriate investigations, identifying solutions, weighing pros and cons of solutions, and making recommendations to management
- 3+ years of experience processing data with pandas, visualizing data, and fitting models with Python
- 2+ years of Hands-on experience with Linux or UNIX systems and software version control with Git
- Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp and embrace new concepts and technologies
Nice to Have:
- 2+ years managing a small team (1 to 3 direct reports)
- Experience with SQL for data collection and processing
