Job Purpose


To contribute to Security Operations Centre (SOC) team in support of Scotiabank through the collection, collation and analysis of global real time and near real time information and intelligence regarding incidents, threats, emergencies, vulnerabilities and issues in order to generate a common operating picture and overall situational awareness amongst key bank decision makers. To take action, within established parameters, to implement measures to immediately respond to identified risks. This position will aid in mitigating physical, operational, reputational and financial risks to Scotiabank staff, customers and assets worldwide.


Major Accountabilities


1.      Global Monitoring and Collection. 

a) Collect, collate and analyze real time and near real time information and intelligence from open source media, internal information feeds, reporting, and other sources to identify issues or incidents which may impact Bank personnel, assets or operations.

b) Monitor alarm systems, access control systems, CCTV, internal sources and reporting to identify and respond to emergent issues which may impact Bank personnel, assets or operations. Analyze identified issues and disseminate findings to create a common operating picture and provide situational awareness to key stakeholders.

2.      Threat Assessment. Assessment of physical security threats across the Bank footprint stemming predominantly from six threat vectors – crime, political/economic, terrorism, transnational, social/health and environmental. Analysts are responsible for regularly producing assessments and briefings to high level stakeholders with minimal review by management.

3.      Reporting. Use established criteria to categorize, process and analyze low to high complexity information of relevance to security risk. Disseminate information and intelligence through verbal and written incident notifications, briefings and summary reports. This may involve data visualization and geospatial tools (e.g. Tableau, ArcGIS) where appropriate.  The accuracy and thoroughness of this reporting will be relied upon by senior Bank staff to make critical decisions, and by other bank departments to initiate and support their response to incidents.

4.      Subject Matter Expertise. Possess subject matter knowledge in the above listed threat vectors and keep current with emerging security and criminal threats in areas relevant to Bank operations through monitoring of developments via information feeds, open source media, interaction with public/private sector peers, and subject matter experts.

5.      High Value High Risk Facilities.  Conduct live monitoring and access control for global High Value High Risk facilities through CCTV, access control systems, alarm systems and internal reporting. Record and report exceptions to ensure best practice and compliance with applicable regulations (i.e. SOX). Rapidly respond to alarms, engage and direct security staff and police while initiating the response of other Scotiabank departments to minimize and mitigate risk.

6.      Access Control.  Through the programming, monitoring and control of physical access control systems, ensure a safe and secure environment for staff in designated facilities while safeguarding the bank’s protected information and assets following established procedures.

Expatriate and Traveler Security.  Maintain records of expatriate residences and contact information worldwide, in order to provide immediate, detailed information to senior staff during emergencies. Track and report on the international movement of Canadian based Scotiabank staff worldwide, in order to provide them with detailed information on security threats and other issues (e.g. potential travel disruptions).




-        University undergraduate degree in Political Science, International Relations, Criminology or related subject preferred.

-        Incident Management Systems (IMS 100 & 200) and Basic Emergency Management preferred.

-        Experience in Critical Incident Management, Security, Law Enforcement, Financial Services, Dispatching, Call Centre, Customer Service or Information Technology is required.   

-        1-3 years of experience in an analytical environment is preferred.

-        Experience with analytical and geospatial software (e.g. Tableau, ArcGIS) is preferred.

-       Spanish is an asset
