Catalyst Operations Development Program

Program Associate – Operations

Why work for Scotiabank?

Scotiabank is a leading bank in the Americas. We are powered by our 97,000 high-performing teammates who make a real difference across the globe as a leading provider of advice, products, digital experiences, and financial services.

This is a place where you’ll get to learn and develop your skills, while being recognized for your hard work. At Scotiabank, we’re passionate about bringing our whole selves to work, allowing us to create inclusive work environments for everyone to enjoy.

Who We Are?

The Catalyst Operations Development Program is your one-stop shop for launching a fast-tracked, supercharged and dynamic career in Operations! The world of Operations is big, and it is important, and more so than ever investors, analysts and leadership are focused on efficiency and productivity (if you follow the markets, you’ll know exactly what we mean!). Need more proof? It’s one of our five strategic priorities as an organization – ‘nuff said! In fact, Ops is so diverse that we even offer a few streams to choose from: Global Operations and Global Wholesale Operations. You can apply to whichever of the two best aligns with your career interests, but trust us, they’re both so awesome that you’ll have a tough time choosing! Want to know more? Oh ya you do!

In Global Operations, we provide the mission-critical support for all of our business-units, customers, and various banking operations in Canada, the United States, Latin America, Europe and Asia (you know… everywhere). We are experts in all things Ops, including International Operations, Governance, Retail and Business Service Centre, Corporate Services, Contact Centres, Fraud Management and Collections (to name a few!). In Global Wholesale Operations, we support a number of business lines’ Capital Markets activities throughout the lifecycle of a trade, providing a critical service to our clients and business partners. From Middle Office to Confirmations, Lending Services, Settlements & Clearing, Operations Control and Operations Change, we get cross-functional exposure to front-office, middle-office, and back-office all in the same place – pretty cool!

Tough decision, right?! We know. And we can’t wait to see which one you choose!

Your Career as a Catalyst Program Associate:

As a Catalyst, you will be exposed to as much of Operations within your selected stream as possible to develop you into a future leader in our organization. This program isn’t about just landing a job – it’s about embarking on a two-year journey of investing in yourself, in building community, in striving for excellence, in pushing your limits and in showing up everyday with the type of winning attitude, sense of ownership and eagerness for opportunity (AOO, as we like to call it!) that will shape you into a future leader of the bank!

And that journey begins on day one, as you join the Catalyst program as a full-time permanent employee. Yup, that’s right – no contracts, and you are guaranteed a job when you graduate from the program in 24 months. As a Catalyst, you will complete three rotations within different areas of your selected Operations stream (Global Ops or Global Wholesale Ops) to provide you with a breadth of experience in a short period of time, allowing you to discover your passion and see where you’ll thrive! You’ll hone your skills in financial literacy while supporting Operations and learning about different financial instruments, processes, products and client-offerings. You’ll strengthen your customer service skillset, expand your product and operational knowledge, gain a well-rounded view of the entire organization and get practical experience working on high-impact projects. Sounds intense? Oh trust us, it is!

But wait, there’s more! Perhaps the best part is that you will be part of a cohort of Catalysts joining as associates at the same time, and you’ll be welcomed into a community of current and alumni Catalysts who have been in your shoes! You will learn alongside your peers, partake in awesome socials, speaker series and workshops, and have a Senior Program Manager dedicated to you and your cohort’s success and development. Not to mention the opportunity to further your growth through executive mentorship, a buddy program, and possible tuition reimbursement for upskilling, learning technical skills or maybe even taking Spanish classes. Plus, as a Catalyst you become a member of Talent Incubators for Leaders of Tomorrow… aka TILT… aka THE best network made up of hundreds of rockstars in campus programs at the bank, just like you! At Scotiabank, we are obsessed with investing in our people and we can’t wait to see you grow and thrive!

Qualifications/ Requirements:

This program is for students who are graduating by May 2022 with an Undergrad or Masters degree, or for those who graduated after April 2021. Heads up – we also require you to be fully mobile across the GTA, as rotations can be in Toronto, North York, Scarborough or Mississauga.

We are looking for future leaders who foresee problems before they arise, recognize efficiencies and love a challenge. They have a keen, critical eye and get things done. They manage internal and external relationships really well, and are driven by excellence. They challenge themselves and the team members around them to be better. We truly value relationships so we want Catalysts who love people and who are competitive, driven and want to win. And, they need to be innovative. If you think this program is “just a job,” you couldn’t be more wrong! This is for those who aim for the stars, who are eager to put in the work and who can’t wait to dive into a once-in-a-career opportunity filled with exploration, learning and development!

How do I Apply for Catalyst?

We believe in getting to know students through relationships over resumes, and we are focused on learning about who YOU are and what you’re interested in to uncover your true potential. We get excited by all experiences that have helped to shape who you are, including your contributions to extra-curriculars, volunteering and leadership positions. In short, we don’t believe resumes will provide us with an accurate depiction of what you’re truly about, so (…we know this might sound crazy, but…) we do not want you to submit your resume. Instead, we ask that as part of your application, you complete the steps below (way more fun!):

  1. Complete your PLUM Profile here:
  2. Take a screenshot of your completed PLUM profile
  3. Complete a very short one-way video interview by clicking here (if you have already done this in the past with us, you don't need to do it again):
  4. When it prompts you to submit your resume, do not attach it! Instead, attach the screenshot of your PLUM profile under the "resume" section (step #2 above). Cover letters are optional – not required.

Note: You do not need to complete your PLUM profile or video interview multiple times if you are applying to multiple positions. We do ask however that you still upload the screenshot of your PLUM profile as proof that you've completed it previously.

We thank you all for your interest in Scotiabank and/or Tangerine!  However, only those selected for an interview will be contacted. If you require accommodation during the recruitment and selection process, please let us know. We will work with you to meet your needs.
