This position plays a critical role in leading and managing investment product strategy initiatives for International Asset Management. The primary focus of this role is to research and develop product strategies to be distributed across the international regions as well as meeting individual country product development needs and contributing to offshore activities as required. The role is also accountable for developing and rolling out new investment products, including proprietary mutual funds, , structured products (i.e. alternatives and principal protected notes)
In addition, the Manager contributes to the overall success of the Asset Management Business, ensuring that specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Accountabilities:
- Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Responsible for the development of product strategies (primarily mutual funds) in various countries in support of International Asset Management business strategies by:
- Conducting comprehensive market and competitor assessments, as well as legal, regulatory and operational assessments to develop business cases that support various investment product delivery and implementation for the assigned region or country.
- Developing and implementing a disciplined approach to product strategy / development grounded in idea generation, product scoping/analysis and portfolio management/product development best practices that will result in profitable initiatives.
- Collaborating with a number of Bank subsidiaries and departments, domestically, regionally and internationally (e.g. Strategy, Risk Management, Marketing, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Scotia Asset Management, Dynamic) to ensure investment product development projects are completed within the budget and established timelines.
- Collaborating with Operations teams, middle office and other support teams regionally and domestically to facilitate the deployment of new products or services and the continuous management of the existing suite of products.
- Providing advice and counsel in the proper positioning of the Funds with marketing and sales channels and recommending and driving product enhancements to improve product quality, profitability and marketability.
- Develop clear, consistent, and compelling product positioning across a variety of communication deliverables, including market commentary, portfolio manager conference calls and commentaries, fact sheets, fund profiles, and investor communications.
Responsible for leading and influencing key product management and product development initiatives by:
- Recommending and implementing mutual fund strategies (e.g. pricing/distribution/risk management strategies) for profitable growth
- Ensuring value added key messaging and continued development of future enhancements
- Conducting regular product audits of specific opportunities across the product shelf
- Analysis and review of product pricing and profit metrics
- Supporting growth opportunities such as strategic acquisitions by participating in due diligence meetings and analysis as required
- Produce, project and manage regulatory and ongoing fund commentaries, including the Management Reports of Fund Performance on a semi-annual basis and fund commentaries on a quarterly basis, working closely with Portfolio Managers, Fund Administration, Compliance, internal stakeholders, and/or external partners.
Other investment product development and management responsibilities include:
- Developing/implementing ad hoc investment policies and procedures required to launch and sustain complicated investment product/services/ initiatives by working closely with Asset Management and Product Development Teams.
- Providing support and guidance on fund manager and product selection to ensure best-in-class approach so that clients have high quality investment choices.
- Takes a leading role in prospective investor outreach, including working with sales teams to educate prospective investors on the merits of investing with the assigned Portfolio Managers.
- Supports business development activities; preparing client-specific research, briefing notes, presentations, white papers and other documents as required.
- Develop and maintain solid knowledge of mutual fund and pension best practices to support communication and implementation of these practices in various countries and businesses.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Dimensions:
- Strong writing/editing skills with demonstrated experience producing a range of content, from business cases and technical commentary to investor-friendly material, including experience with production and design processes.
- Good understanding of and interest in investment funds, including mutual funds, ETFs, and Structured Solutions (i.e. Liquid Alternatives, Principal Protected Notes), as well as the broader investment industry and financial markets.
- Strong organization skills to manage multiple deliverables at the same time and on schedule.

- The incumbent may be required to participate in multiple projects with a broad international and domestic scope at any given time.
- The International Asset Management network encompasses two Regions : Caribbean (Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Cayman Islands, Barbados and Bahamas). And Latin America: Mexico, Peru, Chile and Uruguay.
- Multiple regulators across multiple jurisdictions.
- International Third-Party service arrangements due diligence.
Education / Experience
- Bilingual: English and Spanish, business level proficiency.
- Post graduate degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration.
- At least 3-5 years' experience in developing products and strategies in the investment fund industry, with International financial services experience a definite asset.
- CFA Charterholder, CFA candidate or a suitable candidate for the designation (desired).
- PMP certification or other suitable project management qualification (desired)
- Strong knowledge of financial products, financial markets, and portfolio management principles
- Knowledge of conditions in the countries being supported for investment product and service development initiatives from a legal/regulatory, political, tax and cultural standpoint ((desired at time of hiring, required within first year of employment)
- Strong analytical and financial analysis skills, and a well-developed knowledge of current project management methods.
- Strong communication and leadership/management skills, including people management experience, to be able to effectively assign work, motivate and coach teams across the organization. Demonstrated success in a leadership capacity.

Working Conditions
- Work in a standard office-based environment; Fast paced working environment with multiple competing demands. Limited traveling is required internationally.
