Purpose

 

As a member of the Scotiabank Global Finance Technology team in Toronto, you will work in a dynamic environment that straddles technology and business, to maintain internal systems and applications to support Global Finance Technology. In addition, for smaller projects the role will be required to build business processes, engage with change management, impact analysis, requirement gathering, end-user training and communication, test strategy and post production support.

The incumbent works closely with other units in Product Control, as well as Global Finance Technology, to ensure that proposed solutions align with the strategic direction for Finance's process and information technology platforms.  

The Product Specialist communicates system problems, as well as the status of issues that impact  business value, risk and resources.   In addition, the incumbent provides a high level of professional service to the finance and product control user community, consistent with Technology standards.

 

Key Accountabilities 

 

  • Resolve issues quickly and effectively to enable delivery and support of applications.
  • Identifying, writing and managing business requirements. Contributing to the functional and technical design, prototyping, and process design stages of implementations (including scenario design, flow mapping).
  • Supporting configurations, customization, reports and interfaces, testing and user training. Work with the Product Control users and other stakeholders to gather information utilizing a variety of techniques such as interviews, work sessions, storyboarding, and prototyping.
  • Analyze business requirements and processes to generate technical documentation and execute system configuration.
  • Understand project scope, project goals, product functionality, and desired features.
  • Evaluate customer needs/issues, analyze business processes, assist in evaluating alternatives, and determine appropriate solutions with senior technical staff.
  • Help determine level of effort and time required for delivery.
  • Develop and document business/technical requirements from user perspectives.
  •  Ensure that business requirements are properly translated and satisfied in technical requirements and design. Assist with system design and data migration reviews as needed.
  • Work with Senior Developers and execute low complexity system configuration.
  •  Assist with development of test conditions, scripts, and test cases.
  • Participate in testing, testing reviews and analysis of testing results. Assist with troubleshooting and providing recommendations.
  • Effectively partner with Finance and other IT personnel to deliver solutions.
  • Follow standard software implementation best practices relative to analysis, configuration, development and testing.
  • Provide ad-hoc reporting, data gathering, and feasibility studies to support project business justification as required for management review.

 

Skills and Experience 

 

  • Manage and attend to problem logs to successful resolution on a timely basis.
  • Ability to synthesize business processes into technical specifications and application configuration
  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication skills
  • Availability to manage overnight escalation if needed
  • Ability to meet aggressive deadlines and quickly understand the existing framework and business requirements
  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple tasks
  • Maintain excellent interpersonal relations and demonstrate an ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Systematically analyze and identify problems in order to determine the causes and propose solutions          
  • Familiarity with capital markets products
  • Familiarity with continuous development models (JIRA,Git) is an asset
  • Familiarity with Oracle technology is an asset including database, middleware and ERP products
  • Experience in ledger implementations is an asset
  • Development experience in Oracle Financial products an asset
  • Development experience with Database such as MS SQL Server and Oracle an asset
  • Working experience with data structures, algorithms and principles of OO design
  • Willing and able to work in different technical environments.

 

Educational Requirements:

 

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in Bachelor of Commerce, Management of Information Systems, Information Technology or Computer Science
