The Associate Private Banker supports the management and development of relationships with Mexican Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW), High Net Worth (HNW), and Emerging Affluent families, delivering a consistently high standard of personalized service. This role is designed for high‑potential candidates who demonstrate strong judgment, cultural fluency, and a long‑term career aspiration in Private Banking.

 

The successful candidate will contribute to the sound administration of assigned client relationships, support sophisticated banking and lending solutions, and act as a trusted point of contact for clients with complex personal, family, and cross‑border needs. Fluency in Spanish (oral and written) is mandatory, as the role requires frequent interaction with Mexican wealthy families and advisors.

 

The Associate brings a strong service orientation, discretion, and product knowledge appropriate for high‑touch client segments, and is responsible for adjudicating less complex personal credit requests within assigned credit authorities. Daily interaction with UHNW/HNW clients, Investment Advisors, and internal partners requires professionalism, attention to detail, and the ability to operate confidently in a relationship‑driven, high‑expectation environment.

 

This role is best suited for candidates who have demonstrated:

  • Experience servicing or supporting wealthy or business‑owner families, preferably Mexican or Latin American
  • Strong client service instincts and comfort working with demanding, sophisticated clients
  • High potential for growth into senior Private Banking or Relationship Management roles
  • Cultural awareness, maturity, and sound judgment consistent with UHNW/HNW standards

 

Major Accountabilities:
 

  1. Assist in the effective management of client relationships and provide the highest quality customer service:
  • Developing and maintaining a thorough knowledge of each relationship, including the nature of the account, its financial strength, banking requirements and future goals and direction.
  • Providing effective backup management in the absence of the International Private Banker.
  • Establishing a harmonious relationship with the International Private Banking clientele ensuring that his/her needs are met promptly and resourcefully.
  • Responding quickly and resourcefully to requests from customers, International Private Banking management, and other senior Bank officers.
  • Accompanying the Private Banker on calls as required.

 

  1. Participate in the growth of the International Private Banking Unit portfolio and profitability:
  • Developing and maintaining a full knowledge and understanding of Bank products and services, and an awareness of competitor products and services.
  • Being alert for opportunities to expand existing client and prospect relationships.
  • Assisting in monitoring and analyzing each account to ensure optimum profitability, including preparing detailed proposals for correcting revenue deficiencies.
  • Assisting in the identification research and cultivation of prospective clients by:
    • Developing a knowledge and familiarity with each prospect
    • Participating in the development of a comprehensive up-to-date system data base of prospects with supporting background information
  • Assisting in the design of profitable effective and competitive banking proposals for existing and prospective customers.
  • Maintaining regular contact with existing customers to ensure effective management retention and expansion of banking relationships.

 

  1. Participate in credit management of the loan portfolio and manage a designated portfolio of less complex credits:
  • Conducting a thorough evaluation of designated credit applications and preparing and directing the preparation of comprehensive credit presentations for submission to higher authority in accordance with established private Banking Unit/Bank policies and procedures.
  • Exercising sound judgement and where necessary, sound financial analysis in granting loans within
  • authorized limits, and in providing effective recommendations to higher authority
  • Maintaining each account within the limits and conditions of authorization:
  • Monitoring the financial status of assigned accounts
  • Identifying unfavourable trends or problems at an early date and reporting same to the Private
  • Banker
  • Recommending and assisting in activating effective corrective action
  • Obtaining and reviewing all security documentation as stipulated in the credit authorization, with responsibility for corrective completion.
  • Controlling designated overdrafts, and recommending or initiating effective action to regularize accounts which are irregular or in arrears.

 

4. Assist in maintaining effective operation of the International Private Banking Unit:

  • Organizing work flows to maintain maximum efficiency
  • Preparing returns and correspondence in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Complying with regulatory requirements as part of the service process, including Know Your Client
  • (KYC), Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC), Financial Consumer Agency of Canada
  • (FCAC), Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing (AML/ATF), Privacy and Occupational
  • Health & Safety (OHS) requirements, processes and guidelines as well as SSI guidelines/processes;
  • Immediately reporting/escalating fraudulent activities, unusual occurrences, issues/deficiencies/trends to the Manager Client Service, Private Banking Unit Head, Centre Director, National Private Banking Compliance Officer, and/or applicable Private Banking EO/Shared Services department, as appropriate 

 


Education /  Work Experience / Designations
 

Requirements:

  • Fluency in Spanish and English (oral and written).
  • Ability to communicate with professionalism, cultural awareness, and confidence in a high‑expectation client environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent university education is required, with a strong academic foundation in Finance, Economics, Business, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • Early‑career professional experience (typically 2-5 years), gained through internships, co‑op programs, analyst roles, or entry‑level positions in banking, investments, consulting, corporate finance, family offices, or financial services.
  • Demonstrated interest in building a long‑term career in International Wealth Management or International Private Banking, with particular motivation to serve financially sophisticated, internationally connected clients, including families and entrepreneurs linked to the Mexican market, from a Toronto‑based platform.
  • Solid foundational understanding of finance and investment concepts, with the intellectual capacity to quickly develop proficiency in areas such as banking, investment solutions, portfolio concepts, credit structures, and wealth planning frameworks within the Canadian banking environment.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada, with the willingness to complete required internal training as part of professional development.
  • Demonstrated maturity, discretion, and professional presence, with the ability to interact comfortably with well‑educated, influential, and financially sophisticated individuals, and to operate effectively within a relationship and service driven team environment.


Desirables: 

  • Graduate education or Candidate (MBA or Master’s degree in Finance or a related field).
  • Exposure to financial analysis, credit, investment solutions, or client servicing.
  • Professional designations or progress toward Canadian‑recognized designations (e.g., QAFP, CFA, CFP, CIM or equivalent).
