Associate Director – Fixed Income & Rates Derivatives, Trade Floor Supervision 


Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of the Trade Floor Supervision Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge. 
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions and to that end has knowledge of bond markets, rates trading, listed and OTC derivative products, and understands the intricacies of supervising these activities  
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk 
  • Responsible for training and development of new and existing team members on technology and procedures where applicable
  • Assists the VP, Internal Control Canada in the Internal Control Continuous Improvement Program. 
  • Work with other Internal Control staff to ensure timely execution of the project. 
  • Assist with the mapping of surveillance requirements for a 1b role for execution. 
  • Assist with evaluating any technological issue that may need to be addressed to fulfill the mandate. 
  • Provide support to the VP, Internal Control Canada with the deliverance of a global standard. As well as supporting other Internal Control groups with FICC products supervision in Canada. 
  • Assist with review & escalate exceptions/discrepancies to the VP, Internal Control Canada and/or and coordinate matters requiring further investigation with Trade Surveillance Compliance or the Compliance Control Room as directed. 
  • Through the TFS team coordinate procedural changes associated to pending regulatory changes. 
  • Work with the VP, Internal Control Canada to provide training and interpretations to trading businesses for procedural changes resulting from proposed and changed rules and regulations. 
  • Provide investigative support to the VP, Internal Control Canada to ensure accurate reporting of operational and conduct related matters associated to losses and near misses. 
  • Through the VP, Internal Control Canada provide recommendations to GBM Business lines to consider anticipated regulatory and policy impacts on the business. 
  • Assist in providing advisory support to sales and trading personnel with respect to internal policies and regulatory requirements that affect their daily trading activities. 
  • Assist in providing support and coverages to Front Office Supervision related to daily supervisory activities and reviews. 
  • Maintain close working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and regulatory bodies. 
  • Assist with evaluation and review of ongoing effectiveness of implemented policies and identify/remediate any gaps. 
  • Participate as requested by the VP, Internal Control Canada to lead special projects as required. 
  • Proactively identify operational risk/control deficiencies in the business and raise any concerns to the VP, Internal Control Canada. 
  • Escalate operational risk events, control deficiencies and risks that you identify to the VP, Internal Control Canada. 
  • Execute reviews on FICC secondary (public) market activities, such as: 
    • fair pricing 
    • cancel/amend 
    • size/PnL monitoring 
    • benchmark trading 
    • Execute reviews on FICC primary (private) market activities/DCM, such as: 
    • syndication allocation 
    • Volcker/DCM inventories 
  • Continually expand the review horizon on FICC products; including OTC & listed derivatives 
  • Assist as requested with tasks relating to Internal Control of various FICC products 
  • Escalation of suspicious activities to the VP, Internal Control Canada. the business line head and /or Compliance 
  • Reporting of large operational risk losses to the VP, Internal Control Canada. 
  • Act as a resource for the various trading functions. 
  • Deal with regulatory agencies on trading matters where required 

 

What You'll Bring:

  • 2 - 5 years of experience in the FICC Markets  
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or relevant education/work background 
  • Completion of the CFA or MBA would be desirable. 
  • knowledge of FICC Markets  
  • knowledge of trading methodologies and strategies  
  • Working knowledge of systems used for trading in FICC products  
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in determination and escalation of issues involving material risk 
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and stressful environment and remain focused. 
  • Working knowledge of back-office procedures, departments and contacts.  
  • Ability to multitask, excellent problem resolution and time management skills. 
  • Ability to quickly and effectively respond to enquiries with confidence knowledge of investment products and relevant markets. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong mathematical inclinations and the ability to work well with Excel Spreadsheets   
  • Independent decision making relative to compliance supervision tasks and escalation of exceptions. 
  • Requires excellent interpersonal skills.
