Purpose

 

The Technology and Innovation Banking team at Roynat Capital supports fast growing Canadian technology companies with all their banking needs; from seed to exit. With lived industry experience in the Canadian technology ecosystem, our dedicated team provides comprehensive banking services, specifically tailored for this industry’s needs. We are deeply focused on helping founders and investors scale and succeed. 

 

The Origination and Client Management group manages the end to end process of structuring, diligence and underwriting for new and existing technology client opportunities. The team maintains a high level of engagement with key stakeholders in the technology ecosystem; building relationships and developing insights. 

 

The Associate Director is responsible for contributing to the profitable growth and quality of the team’s portfolio by acquiring exciting new opportunities and managing a portfolio of accounts. Success is achieved by delivering thoughtful, proactive solutions, levering the capabilities of our practice and those of the broader institution.


Accountabilities:

 

Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

 

Contributes to the profitable development of Technology and Innovation Banking portfolio by:

  • Leading the structuring, underwriting, and closing of credit products for assigned prospects and clients;
  • Providing prompt and sound recommendations in the analysis and adjudication of credit proposals;
  • Recommending pricing for loans and credit-related fees which yield a return commensurate with risk and due regard to profit, administration and competitive considerations;
  • Responsible for the end-to-end process on all but the most complex deals, including engaging with clients/prospects, risk management and legal partners to ensure fulfilment and delivery of all services;
  • Ensuring adequate compliance monitoring and reporting actions as required.

 

Engages with clients independently, building relationships with key technology ecosystem stakeholders to remain well-informed on market, sector and competitive trends.

Maintains an ongoing pipeline of business, including customers and active prospects to achieve business objectives within assigned market segment.

 

Stewards a team of Senior Associates and Analysts, building a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that supports a highly collaborative culture with a single purpose: to be best in class. 

 

Ensures proactive portfolio management, including maintaining credit quality and profitability targets, understanding changing risk profiles of clients and communicating this information and assessment to key stakeholders (internal and external).

 

Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

 

Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education / Experience / Other Information:

 

  • Post secondary education - Bachelor’s degrer
  • Five or more years of commercial banking or corporate banking experience
  • Highly proficient with MS Office (Word, PP, Excel)
  • Strong familiarity with Venture Debt and Venture Capital ecosystem with an extensive network of relationships in market;
  • Advanced knowledge of credit analysis, with strong understanding of the capital structure of venture and non-venture backed technology companies;
  • In-depth knowledge of portfolio management practices including expertise in evaluating risk and managing changing situations;
  • Proven structuring and negotiation skills, closing skills and ability to engage and build trust with clients independently; and
  • Experience managing resources, deadlines and competing priorities while coaching a team of individuals at different stages of their career

 

Working Conditions: 

Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.  Travel within the assigned territory is required.
