Purpose
The Sustainable Finance Group within Global Banking and Markets provides sustainable finance and advisory solutions to corporate, financial, public sector, and institutional clients across the Bank’s global presence, with a focus on the Americas. We work alongside product partners (including debt capital markets, equity capital markets, corporate and investment banking, sales and trading) to provide innovative client solutions for sustainability challenges across all industries, geographies and sectors.
We are seeking to hire an Associate Director / Vice-President in Sustainable Finance that will support the Group in working across all major business lines and industries in Global Banking and Markets. The Associate Director will develop and execute sustainable finance products and transactions, independently deliver comprehensive advisory solutions to clients, and support in content and thought leadership. The Associate Director will also oversee the management of core internal team functions including database management and data analysis, preparation of client pitch material, and the development of advisory content on key ESG themes. The role will also support on key projects and enterprise initiatives within Scotiabank.
Our team is a combination of sustainability and finance experts with specialties that include finance, banking, sciences, ESG research and sustainable finance. We encourage candidates with diverse academic and/or professional backgrounds to apply.
What You'll Do:
- Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
- Deliver high-quality, consistent client coverage across selected sectors through market insights and tailored materials
- Lead client marketing and mandate execution across sustainable finance and ESG advisory solutions
- Support the expansion of sustainable finance opportunities as well as ESG advisory beyond labelled products
- Advise clients on evolving ESG and sustainability topics, including regulatory and policy developments, transition strategies, ESG targets and reporting, ratings, taxonomies, legislation, and product principles (ICMA, LSTA…)
- Maintain deep knowledge of global sustainable finance markets (market trends, financial product development, structuring)
- Oversee analysts and associates in the development and maintenance of databases, client presentations, market communications, and internal reporting
- Provide thought leadership to clients and internal stakeholders by leading thematic research and presentations, and contributing to market commentary, product development, internal education, and external events
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across Scotiabank’s footprint to further support and develop sustainable finance and Scotiabank enterprise initiatives
- Manage external partnerships and third-party relationships (e.g. trade associations, ESG working groups, SPO providers, ESG rating providers, credit rating agencies, and accounting firms)
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk
- Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment
What You'll Bring:
- 5-7 years of relevant experience (ESG, sustainability, investment banking, corporate banking, debt capital markets, equity capital markets, research, corporate finance, management consulting)
- Experience in ESG / sustainability-related fields considered essential
- Experience presenting to clients and other market stakeholders in professional settings
- Experience and knowledge of key trends, themes, and issues related to ESG, sustainability, and sustainable finance
- Experience in ESG data platforms and ratings systems an asset (i.e. Bloomberg Terminal, ESG rating provider portals)
- Understanding of capital markets and Scotiabank’s key business lines
- Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in sustainability, environmental sciences/studies, finance, business, economics or related field
- Advanced professional designation preferred (Master’s degree, CFA, CA)
- French speaking and writing abilities an asset
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Comfortable working in complex, rapidly evolving environment with tight timelines for multiple deliverables
- Strong data analytical and data management skills
- Strong work ethic and passion for sustainable finance
- Ability to cross-collaborate with varied and multi-stakeholder relationships
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Creativity and problem-solving ability
Work Arrangement:
This position is currently an onsite role, with the expectation that you will work 5 days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
