Purpose
As Associate Director, Internal Controls, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Bank’s global voice and electronic communications monitoring program. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with internal policies and evolving regulatory expectations, while supporting regional Global Banking and Markets (GBM) teams with expert guidance and operational excellence.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Helps build the global enhancement of voice and e-communications controls and governance within GBM and establishes best practices for supervision (roll out of global training, new detection technology, coordination of global reviews of lexicons/scenarios/eligible employees for surveillance) while seeking input from multiple stakeholders. Foster an environment of collaboration and best practices with other SMEs within GBM.
  • Work as part of the team providing subject matter expert on voice & e-Comms monitoring for GBM, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Proactively identify risks associated with the way GBM’s business communicates globally and take appropriate steps to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and strengthen controls
  • Identifies and creates global monitoring of supervisory activities for voice & e-Comms and supports the development of metrics that highlight the effectiveness of supervisory activities taking place.
  • Liaise with senior management and other internal parties (audit/testing) regarding the development and implementation of new global supervision strategies.
  • Participate in special projects within GBM and the Bank (Industry Working Groups).
  • Help drive the development and adoption of conduct risk metrics across GBM by leveraging new and existing sources of data to create holistic conduct risk measures. Ensure standardization of metrics when appropriate to provide monitoring of the status of risk culture.
  • Drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Builds and maintains key strategic relationships within various groups including support functions, technology groups and business lines to ensure alignment with the overall strategic plans of the Bank. Partners with business leaders, team members and other key stakeholders to plan, develop and manage key operational, technical and strategic business projects. In addition to internal stakeholders, there will be expectations to engage with external stakeholders such as regulators, appointed independent reviewers, product vendors etc.

 

What You'll Bring:

  • Minimum 5–7 years of related industry experience in a supervisory or senior compliance role.
  • Working knowledge of securities law, regulations, and trading rules.
  • Working knowledge of capital markets and related business practices.
  • Strong understanding of voice and e-Communications monitoring tools, regulatory frameworks, and supervisory practices.
  • Ability to drive the development and adoption of conduct risk metrics by leveraging data to create holistic and standardized measures across GBM.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strategic relationships across business lines, support functions, and external stakeholders (e.g., regulators, independent reviewers, vendors).
  • A customer-focused mindset with a commitment to deepening client relationships and driving a strong risk culture.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and project management skills, with the ability to influence and lead across global teams.
  • Spanish language proficiency is considered an asset.
