Purpose:
The successful candidate will support the Managing Director, Head of Equity Financial Resource Management in providing structuring expertise across Global Equities, assisting in the management of legal, tax and regulatory risk across the global platform. In particular, the candidate will play an integral role in supporting Global Equities in developing governance processes leveraging their knowledge of taxation as it relates to equity capital markets products, including securities lending transactions, total return swaps, futures and structured notes. The candidate will work with a large group of stakeholders across Global Equities, including Prime Services, Global Equity Derivatives and Equity Sales and Trading teams, as well as other areas of the Bank, including Taxation, Legal, Finance, and Securities Operations teams.

The successful candidate should demonstrate flexibility, strong attention to detail, the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, initiative and excellent organizational skills. The successful candidate will be an exceptional team-player and communicator, with a strong work ethic and relevant experience to the role. The candidate will be based in Toronto and will report to the Managing Director, Head of Equity Financial Resource Management.
 
What You'll Do:

  • Support Global Equities in managing legal, tax and regulatory risk across the global platform (Canada, US, Europe)
  • Work with other members of Global Equities, Legal, and Taxation to:
    • Review and structure existing and potential transactions/business activities
    • Work with external counsel to obtain and refresh legal and tax advice and opinions
    • Ensure any tax related operational processes and procedures are implemented and documented 
    • Review and resolve residual legal and tax matters
  • Work with Equity Financial Resource Management team in structuring transactions to meet liquidity risk management and regulatory objectives
  • Keep abreast of legal, regulatory, and tax law changes in the markets in which the Global Equities team operates
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decision

 
What You'll Bring:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in law or financial services with a focus in equity capital markets and related tax law matters; and
  • LLM, JD, or university degree in business, finance or a related discipline, depending upon experience. 
  • CFA candidate or charter holder is an asset
  • Fast learner, strong analytical skills and critical thinking capabilities to frame and structure complex issues effectively and develop insights and recommendations
  • Superior attention to detail and comfort reviewing legal opinions
  • Knowledge of capital markets products, and Canadian, US and/or Global tax law 
  • Familiarity with Basel and OSFI Banking regulatory frameworks is an asset
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Drive and motivation to work in a target-driven and high-performance culture and contributes to an inclusive workplace
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness and initiative in an evolving and sometimes unstructured workplace


Work Arrangement: 
This position is currently an Onsite role, with the expectation that you will work 4+ days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business
