Purpose

 

 

The GBM 1st Line AML Controls function is critical for GBM and a key part of the overall Bank’s effort for AML/ATF and Sanctions compliance. This role will contribute to the execution of GBM’s 1st line AML mandate in establishing key 1B Controls by coordinating efforts on client Account Activity reviews and high-profile investigations. The incumbent will manage and direct efforts of their team & will also play a key role in supporting global onboarding teams in building a future state process for review of client activities.  This role will engage with GBMO teams, 2nd line AML partners, Data Governance Office, Customer Data Services, and requires collaboration with various stakeholder groups within GBM and the Bank.

 

 

Accountabilities

 

 

  • Leads the coordination of transactional reviews across Deposit, Credit, Trade Finance, and Capital Market products for potential Red Flags and alignment with the purpose and intended use of products
  • Ensures timely preparation of client dashboards and case reports containing well-written risk assessment reports and case memoranda for the purposes of executive and/or testing audiences
  • Works in collaboration with various data governance/service teams to assess the availability of source data to support high risk investigations and review of client transactions
  • Identifies client Trading accounts and advances product mapping tables to identify trade booking points
  • Applies advanced research skills to develop business intelligence on specific industries and business models to support in-depth anti-money laundering investigations of client relationships
  • Ensures escalation of activities deemed as ‘Unusual Transactions’ by submitting adequate and accurate supporting documents to validate the escalation
  • Develops and maintains a sound knowledge and understanding of the Bank’s AML policies and procedures, money laundering and terrorist financing issues, regulations, industry best practices, criminal typologies and developing trends
  • Executes and maintains AML/ATF compliance controls, provides AML/ATF compliance expertise, and support to the business and functional units that form the first line of defense
  • Works in collaboration and supports GBM Transaction Monitoring teams/initiatives
  • Perform ad-hoc, special, and/or focused data analytics as necessary, as well as other duties and projects as assigned, to support the overall GBM AML program.
  • Proactively addresses gaps, identifies opportunities and leads changes for streamlining end to end processes and controls to enhance compliant execution of AML and Sanctions program. 
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, and adherence to effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk.

Education / Experience

 

 

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in financial services
  • University degree in business, finance, or other relevant field; MBA degree
  • CAMS or Certified Financial Crime Specialist designations
  • Strong knowledge of corporate banking, correspondent banking, capital markets products
  • Experience in compliance programs; AML knowledge and experience
  • Back office or middle office experience in capital markets, i.e. understanding of data flows
  • Previous experience in Transaction Monitoring related initiatives in capital markets 
  • Working knowledge of Tableau/PowerBI Software’s (Preferred but not essential)
  • Strong communication, project management, and planning skills
