The Associate, North American Short-Term Funding and Interest Rate Risk will support the effective management of the North American Short- Term Funding and Short-Term Interest Rate Risk Desks. The individual will play a key role in trade capture and developing relationships with the Operations centres, risk management and all other units as required to support the effective management of the Desks. In this role, the Associate is expected to produce, maintain and distribute accurate and timely financial and management reports for decision making and deal execution. This role contributes to the overall success of Group Treasury / Markets (GT Markets), ensuring specific individual goals, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Key person to ensure that all trades are captured into internal systems.
  • Developing Management Reports and presentation on a planned and ad hoc basis to support decision making.
  • Supports day-to-day operations, including deal booking, monitoring and review of risk and financial reports
  • Act as primary liaison between STF and STIRR desks and Operational support groups (e.g. GWO Funding Operations, Middle Office).
  • Contributes to GT Markets team by driving operational efficiencies through automation using key technologies (Excel, VBA, Power Query, SQL).
  • Support the North American Short Term Funding program with timely and data driven analysis
  • Identifies and escalates to [AD/D] STIRR any risk, settlement or financial reporting issues while concurrently ensuring corrective action and follow up investigations are completed in a timely manner.
  • Monitors cash flow forecasting, daily analysis of cash gap positions, highlighting emerging changes and risks.
  • Occasionally document and improve desk operating procedures and manual
  • Stay well informed of current industry developments and relevant regulatory initiatives and ensure readiness to achieve compliance with new regulations, alerting Management to any pertinent upcoming changes.
  • Be a valued partner within GT: facilitates and encourages collaboration and communication within GT and with the rest of the bank.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective area in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?  We’d love to work with you if you have:   

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, or another quantitative discipline
  • Previous work experience in Treasury and/or Finance within the banking industry is a strong asset.
  • Proficient in data analytics using advanced Excel features, and programing/coding skills (e.g., SQL, SAS, MS Office) are definite assets.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail and sound judgment are a must.
  • A team player with a demonstrated ability to effectively manage internal relationships by collaborating within the department and across business units.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and the ability to work within various group settings.
  • Strong willingness to ask questions, explore areas for improvement and provide recommendations
