Purpose

The Assistant Manager, Finance is responsible for the accurate accounting of lease transactions, and to assist the Senior Manager, Field Accounting and Operations with the management of Scotia Leasing Accounting Unit. The incumbent is required to perform numerous accounting functions including journal entries, reconciliations, invoicing, and accounts payable.

 

The Assistant Manager, Finance is responsible for the preparation and accuracy of financial and management information including financial statements, income projections, and account analysis. As a result the incumbent is required to have a complete working knowledge of CICA handbook, and GAAP with an emphasis on the accounting treatment of leases.

 

At all times he/she is to maintain full awareness of, and comply with Scotia Service Standards, Scotia Compliance Regulations, and the Bank’s Complaint Resolution Standards and Procedures.

 

What you will be doing in the role

• Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

• Responsible to ensure all associated documentation produced within the department is accurate, in accordance with the credit authorization, and is within Scotia Leasing’s policies and procedures for transactions up to $125MM

• Responsible for the maintenance of the leasing portfolio in accordance with the GICA Handbook, GAAP, Scotia Leasing's and the Bank's policy and procedures.

• Responsible for maintaining the operation of Scotia Leasing's lease receivable system, General Ledger, Scotia Direct, Scotia Connect, Monthly Trail Balance, Forms Free Teller (FFT), lnfolease Database, and the LG System to link to the Bank's OLL/MBR

• Provide backup to Senior Manager, Field Accounting and Operations

• Ensure the Bank's interests are protected with respect to the day to day operations

• Effectively manage and develop subordinate staff by:

o Providing guidance, support and feedback to subordinates to improve their performance.

o Clarifying job functions and responsibilities. Fostering, on an individual basis, the learning and development of subordinates.

o Providing strong leadership to motivate individual and team performance.

o Listening, negotiating and communicating goals; sharing knowledge, experience and responsibility when dealing with subordinates

• Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

• Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

What you bring to the role

• University Degree, College, Professional Accounting Certification/Designation or 5+ years relevant work experience

Experience with generating, manipulating, and communicating reports

• Analytical skill to identify process improvement opportunities.

• Strong organization and problem solving skills

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

• Ability to work as part of a team and High attention to detail

 • Process improvement mindset.

• Experience with leasing industry is a strong asset
