In this role you will provide technical leadership in application development and support for CTR (Central Data Repository) application within Scotiabank’s GWRT. You will take part in Data Management and be involved in various ongoing regulatory related projects. The primary function of the Application Specialist will be to implement technical solution and expand the application implemented using Java, Python, Oracle PL/SQL, Linux and data models. The Application Specialist will also provide technical advice to the development team; enhance SDLC process, as well as various ongoing related works. You will provide direction for issue exploration, problem solve and facilitate problem resolution, design solutions, improve processes, create estimates, work on roadmaps, communicate and work with other developers and stakeholders.



What we are looking for?


In this role you will:

  • Develop technology roadmap for the application
  • Establish a close relationship with manager development to ensure requirements are implemented
  • Mentor developers to provide technical guidance
  • Facilitate problem solving as required, working closely with design, development, delivery teams, business analyst and stakeholders
  • Coach team members and help with their development
  • Code and implement complex modules in the application
  • Mindset to achieve application deliverable on time and in good quality

And these skills and experience will help you succeed in the role:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) in application development
  • Excellent understanding and working knowledge of source control, JIRA and wiki (Confluence)
  • 10+ years of database application (Oracle prefer) design, ETL, data modelling and architecture
  • A problem solver with ability to lead the team to push the solution and progress
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills with strong attention to details
  • 3-5 years of Financial Services/Risk / Regulatory business processes
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational skills and ability to interact with business analyst and stakeholders to complete job in time
  • Solid foundation with software engineering and design methodology
  • Must be a self-starter, fast learner with positive attitude and team player
  • Completion of a post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering or a technology related field


Are you the right person for the role?

You Have;


  • 10+ years of Oracle store procedure, SQL queries, data loader and performance tuning
  • 3+ years of E/R modelling tools , knowledge of PowerDesigner is desirable
  • 5+ years of Python, Java 8, Scala
  • 2+ years of Spark, Hadoop and big data technology
  • Technical hands-on working experience with Object-Oriented Design, Design Patterns and data applications
  • Good experience working with ETL tools and technology
  • Good working knowledge of Linux operating system and utilities such as bash, awk, sed
  • Working experience with Continuous Integration & Application Development is an asset
  • Working experience with Apache NiFi, Kafka, Elastic Search is an asset
