Purpose

 

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Investment Banking Analyst to join Scotiabank’s Mid-Market M&A Advisory team. Responsible for the analytical and execution support required to deliver high-quality advisory services. The role provides an opportunity to gain exposure to complex middle-market M&A transactions, develop technical expertise and build a career in investment banking.

 

Accountabilities:

 

  • Financial Modeling & Valuation: Build and maintain detailed financial models, perform financial and valuation analyses (DCF, precedent transactions, trading comps), and support deal structuring.
  • Research & Analysis: Conduct company, industry, and market research to support pitches, client meetings, and live mandates.
  • Presentation Materials: Draft pitchbooks, confidential information memoranda (CIMs), management presentations, and other deal-related materials.
  • Transaction Support: Assist in due diligence processes, data room management, and coordination with clients, legal, and accounting advisors.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with Associates, Associate Directors, and senior bankers to ensure seamless execution of transactions. Actively contribute to a high performance and inclusive work environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensure accuracy and consistency across all analyses, models, and client deliverables.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education/Experience:

 

  • 0-2 years’ work experience in Investment Banking.
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
  • Strong quantitative skills focused on financial analysis, accounting and financial theory.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • A high level of attention to detail.
  • A high level of energy and a keen desire to learn new concepts.
  • The ability to excel under pressure amid demanding deadlines and perform effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new situations.

 

Working Conditions

 

Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. Limited travel domestically / internationally.
