The Quantitative Trading Solutions group develops and operates Scotiabank's equity algorithmic trading systems, portfolio trading applications, ETF market-making operations and related technology systems. We work very closely and are tightly integrated with the front-office desks.


We are seeking a talented software developer to work with the ETF Services desk to develop and enhance their low-latency algorithmic trading capabilities. ETFs are a key growth area and this is a rare opportunity to play a key role in a substantial trading business and become an integral member of the team.


We will consider a range of experience levels and adjust role, compensation, and title accordingly. 



Key Accountabilities


The position will be a primary technical resource for the ETF Trading desk. Key responsibilities are:


Enhancing our low latency trading framework, optimizing handling of market data, product pricing, order sending, risk checks and other core system components.  

Designing and developing trading strategies to establish and hedge positions in real-time, buying and selling ETFs, stocks, bonds, FX and related products.  

Analyzing results to look for trading opportunities and ways to improve profitability.

Developing related infrastructure such as ETF composition and modelling, P&L calculation, book management etc.

Analyze system performance and trading results to find ways to improve efficiency and client executions.

Perform support of production trading systems to troubleshoot and quickly resolve any issues or questions”.


Functional Competencies


Strong software development skills, including algorithmic design, problem solving, optimizing and testing.

Experience in developing real-time event-driven applications, ideally in C++

Background related to trading systems, ETFs, index arbitrage, market-making and similar areas preferred.

Experience with real-time trading systems (Fidessa, Portware, Flextrade, Tbricks, etc..) an asset

Experience coding in a DEV team using a version-control system (Git, Bitbucket)

Effective written and verbal communication skills to bridge between technical content and business objectives


Educational Competencies


Post-secondary degree in a technology field (Computer Science/Engineering etc.) or equivalent training.

Relevant Industry courses/certification such as CSC, CFA an asset.
