Purpose

The Agile Coach is responsible for elevating the organization’s delivery capability by fostering a culture of agility, continuous improvement, and human‑centered collaboration. This role partners with teams, product leaders, engineering leaders, and executives to guide the adoption and maturity of Agile frameworks. The Agile Coach serves as a mentor, facilitator, and change agent, helping teams improve ways of working, strengthen product mindset, and achieve measurable outcomes that align with strategic business goals. This role will contribute to the overall success of the Global Low Value Payments Engineering teams to elevate our team’s growth potential and execute on top organizational priorities. 

 

What You’ll Do:

Team Coaching & Facilitation

  • Coach teams on Agile values, principles, and frameworks to improve flow, predictability, and quality.
  • Observe, evaluate, and lead-by-example on Agile ceremonies (e.g., retrospectives, sprint planning, stand‑ups) while enabling teams to self‑facilitate.
  • Guide teams in identifying impediments, improving delivery practices, and adopting data‑driven decision‑making.

Organizational Coaching & Transformation

  • Support the design and rollout of Agile transformation strategies across departments or portfolios.
  • Partner with leaders to build an environment where autonomy, trust, psychological safety, and continuous learning can thrive.
  • Promote systems thinking and cross‑functional collaboration to improve end‑to‑end delivery flow.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Mentor Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and new Agile practitioners to build internal coaching capability.
  • Help leaders understand their role in supporting Agile teams and shifting traditional command‑and‑control behaviors.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on Agile practices, product strategy alignment, and organizational impediments.
  • Promote a culture of accountability within the team.

Continuous Improvement & Metrics

  • Introduce, measure, and refine Agile metrics such as cycle time, throughput, team health, and customer value delivery.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative insights to guide improvement experiments and support evidence‑based planning.
  • Maintain awareness of industry best practices and incorporate modern coaching techniques and tools.

Organizational Expectations

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

What You'll Bring:

Education & Certifications

  • Post-secondary education and/or experience in relevant positions or field of employment
  • Relevant certifications are an asset, for example:
    • ICAgile Agile Coaching (ICP‑ACC or ICP‑ATF)
    • Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) or Certified Agile Coach (CEC/CTC)
    • SAFe, Kanban, or Lean certifications

 

Professional Experience

  • Working experience in Agile environments across engineering or product domains.
  • Successful engagements in previous roles as Agile Coach, Scrum Master, or Delivery Lead coaching multiple teams.
  • Proven experience driving organizational‑level transformations or modernization efforts.

Skills & Competencies

  • Deep knowledge of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, XP, Lean) and scaling approaches (SAFe, LeSS, or similar).
  • Strong facilitation, mentoring, and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Ability to coach at all levels—from hands‑on delivery teams to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated success improving team health, delivery flow, and customer‑centric practices.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence without authority.
  • A passion for continuous learning, psychological safety, and fostering inclusive team culture.

 

 

Working Conditions

Work in a standard office-based environments located in Scarborough and Downtown Toronto; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. No external travel required.
