Your Career as an Activate Program Associate:

 

We know that many of you have a perfect career path in mind post-graduation but navigating it can be difficult! Joining Activate is the answer you’ve been looking for! The Activate program has 5 separate business line streams that you can develop within which you get to select based on your passions and interests:

  1. Human Resources/ Marketing
  2. Global Finance
  3. Audit
  4. CPA – Chartered Professional Accounting
  5. Global Risk Management

During the Activate program, you will complete multiple rotations within your selected and preferred business line. This is key to your development and aims to ensure you receive a breadth of experience in a short period of time, and that you can discover your passion and we can see where you’ll thrive! Sound intense? It is. You’ll hone your skills in financial literacy and while supporting Strategic Functions, learning about different financial instruments and processes, as well as our products and client-offerings. You’ll strengthen your customer service skillset and expand your operational knowledge. You’ll gain a well-rounded view of the entire organization, while allowing you to gain practical experience working on high-impact projects within the group.

But wait – we saved the best for last! The best part is that you will be part of a cohort of students joining as associates at the same time. A really big component of the program is the social and community aspect. You will train together, come together for socials, learning and development sessions, and have a program senior manager dedicated to you and your cohort and everyone’s success and development. Not to mention the opportunity to seek opportunities for upskilling, learning technical skills, or even Spanish (for those Anglophones out there). At Scotiabank, we are obsessed with relationships and your development and success.

  

About the GRM Stream:

 

There are three 6-month rotations in GRM:

  1. Risk Technology,
  2. Retail Risk Secured Lending and Small Business, and
  3. Retail Risk Data and Analytics

Across these three areas you will be working on data manipulation, risk technology project work, customer analytics and portfolio management all with a credit risk perspective.  This includes analyzing the effectiveness of risk strategies, performing portfolio trend analysis, as well as pulling, summarizing, and presenting data.  In each of these rotations, you will have regular interactions with senior management.

You will learn about the Bank’s different business lines, their policies, as well as the technology and decision engines that enable credit strategies.  You will also learn how using data and analytics is at the heart of our operations so that the Bank is making informed data-driven business decisions.  Therefore, we are looking for people who have strong data skills, a keen analytical and problem-solving skillset and solid communication abilities. 

GRM is a group of high performing individuals with strong analytical acumen so this 18-month rotation will help future proof your skills as a business professional with a technical depth in data and portfolio management.

  

What we’re looking for:

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Strong programming skills (SAS, SQL or Python languages) and who are comfortable manipulating data
  • Strong communication and presentation skills are an asset for these roles
  • General business and finance/accounting background is nice to have, but not essential

 

YOU WILL…

  • Rotate though various teams in GRM Canadian Credit Risk; gain exposure to different areas in the department and the various portfolios covered
  • Work on projects that tie into GRM objectives
  • Pull and manipulate data to assist on risk reporting, customer analytics and Risk strategies

 

YOU ARE…

  • Leadership potential; proactive personality
  • Programming background
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with large amounts of data
  • Technically proficient with good understanding of statistical fundamentals
  • Quantitative Undergrad (e.g. business, mathematics, statistics, engineering) plus Masters preferred
