Why work for Scotiabank?

Scotiabank is among the largest banks in the world and the most international bank in Canada. We are powered by our 100,000 high-performing (and awesome) teammates who make a real difference across the globe as a leading provider of advice, products, digital experiences, and financial services. Together with our Digital Factories around the world, we are dedicated to helping our 25 million customers become better-off.

This is a place where you’ll get to learn and develop your skills, while being recognized for your hard work. At Scotiabank, we’re passionate about bringing our whole selves to work, allowing us to create inclusive work environments for everyone to enjoy. Say hello to a career at Scotiabank.

Who Are We?

In Strategic Functions, we support all business-units at Scotiabank in a variety of ways. What ARE the Strategic Functions you may ask? They include Marketing & Communications, Human Resources, Corporate Finance, Accounting, Global Risk Management and Strategy (a little bit of everything). We are a crucial part of the organization because these functions allow all parts of the bank to continue working together in a perfect ecosystem.

Think of us as one of the few places where you can get front-office, mid-office, and back-office exposure all in the same place – pretty cool!

Your Career as an Activate Program Associate:

We know that many of you have a perfect career path in mind post-graduation but navigating it can be difficult! The Strategic Functions are a vital part of keeping the bank running and focusing on our strategic priorities. We want to expose you as much of we can in your area of expertise to develop you into a future leader in our organization. This isn’t about “finding a job” – if you’re a candidate for this program you’re that top 5% and you have no problem “finding a job”; this is for people who are ambitious and who want to become leaders.

You join our Activate program as a full-time permanent employee, no contracts and you are guaranteed a job when you graduate. Our program in 12-18 months - we wouldn’t invest all of this in the very best students if we didn’t want you becoming a leader in our business! During your time in the Activate Program, you will complete multiple rotations within different areas of your chosen business stream. This is key to your development and aims to ensure you receive a breadth of experience in a short period of time, and that you can discover your passion and we can see where you’ll thrive! Sound intense? It is.

You’ll hone your skills in financial literacy and while supporting the Strategic Functions of the bank, learning about different financial instruments and processes, as well as our products and client-offerings. You’ll strengthen your customer service skill set and expand your operational knowledge. You’ll gain a well-rounded view of the entire organization, while allowing you to gain practical experience working on high-impact projects within your business line.

We have a few different streams that you can select from and develop within:

  1. Marketing, Communications, and Human Resources:

Are you someone who enjoys being in a creative space or are passionate about relationship building? Do you envision yourself working in a collaborative and curious environment where you can create impact on a global scale? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this stream is for you! Apply to our Marketing, Communications, and HR development stream to dive deep into our many strategic initiatives within these spaces!

  1. Global Finance:

Do you enjoy utilizing your problem-solving skills to crack the hardest of problems? Do you enjoy developing innovative solutions to elevate current processes and relationship building? Are you someone who is analytically driven and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment? Apply to our Global Finance development stream to launch your career and gain exposure to our many teams and business lines.

  1. Global Risk Management:

Are you someone who is fascinated with the financial market and the complexities that come with the risks associated to it? Are you someone who wants exposure to an opportunity that will allow you to combine your soft and technical skills? Do you love being agile, modelling and working collaboratively? Apply to our Global Risk Management Stream where you can specialize and gain exposure in our many areas of Risk including Market, Business Banking, Retail Credit, Enterprise Risk or even Anti-Money Laundering!

  1. Audit:

Are you a collaborative communicator who is an independent thinker and always curious? Do you love data analytics or have Spanish language skills? Are you someone who enjoys problem-solving and can see the “big picture’ in a complex environment? Are you curious about how Governance, Risk Management or Internal Controls work in the Bank’s business lines and core functions? Do you know you don’t have to be a CA or CPA to be an Internal Auditor? As part of the Audit team, you can make an impact by shaping the future of the Bank. Apply to our Audit Development stream where you can utilize your passion for business, risk management and personal development.

Qualifications/ Requirements:

This program is for students who have just graduated or who are about to and are looking to secure that job now so that they are ready to go once they graduate. The people who are well-suited for this role are particularly interested in a specific stream of Strategic Functions. They manage internal and external relationships extremely well and are driven by excellence. They challenge themselves and the team members around them to be better.

How To Apply:

For students, we are focused on learning about who you are and what you’re interested in to uncover your true potential.  In short, we don’t believe resumes will provide us with an accurate depiction of what you’re truly about to properly assess your potential.  Instead we want to get to know YOU and hear about the experiences that have shaped you. We know… this might sound crazy but for students applying to one of our campus programs we are no longer requiring resumes. Instead we ask that as part of your application, you complete the below:
