Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Assist in the development of strategic global crime awareness initiatives, educate, and create awareness throughout the Bank on evolving criminal trends, both organized and opportunistic. Develop information and intelligence with key regional, national, and global sources of information and work directly with law enforcement agencies to proactively develop strategies to mitigate risk.
  • Detect criminal attacks against the Bank, its employees, customers, assets, and programs through effective communication with key stakeholders and Executives through prevention/detection presentations and regular meetings approved by management. Identify the presence of organized criminal activity by ensuring every matter within our mandate is thoroughly investigated and reported on.
  • Conduct investigations of medium-to-high complexity with minimal oversight. Responding to incidents in a timely manner by assessing risk, ensuring case progression is aligned with the requirement of the matter being investigated and providing clear, concise, and timely updates and/or reporting. Responsible for preparing and delivering reports that accurately reflect the investigative findings, identify policy and procedural breakdowns, and include clear and appropriate recommendations to the business line to ensure there is no continuance or reoccurrence, and the overall risk is mitigated.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

 

  • Post-secondary degree and/or University/College courses in business law or equivalent training.
  • Courses in investigative practices, methods, and enforcement strategies, interviewing and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written skills.
  • High degree of fluency in English and French required - Spanish desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience investigating major financial crimes and internal investigations.
  • Working knowledge of relevant federal and local laws and regulations in respective jurisdictions where the Bank operates.
  • Working knowledge of the judiciary system, both criminal and civil processes and the rules of admissibility of evidence.
  • Working knowledge of IT applications, systems, security controls.
  • A valid driver’s license is required

 

Working Conditions:

 

  • This is a hybrid role primarily in a remote environment, however, must be able to deal with situations promptly and effectively requiring immediate action.
  • Required to work well beyond regular business hours.
  • Frequently re-establish priorities based on demands, criminal attacks, and the risk of potential loss to the Scotiabank Group of Companies.
  • Required to travel regionally, nationally, and sometimes internationally.

In addition to French, the successful candidate must also have sufficient knowledge of English, as the work involves interacting and collaborating regularly with groups and individuals based in Toronto, as well as constantly interacting with other people, including clients, who speak English, locally and elsewhere
