Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of GRM Enterprise Risk in Asia Pacific ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

 

Accountabilities

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
  • Assist the Enterprise Risk team in executing operational risk 2nd line accountabilities in accordance to the Bank’s policies and frameworks, including governance and oversight activities in the Asia Pacific region, via tasks that may include but are not limited to the following:
    • Prepare reports and presentation decks for regional committee meetings, including Operational Risk, Third Party Risk Management, committee meetings.
    • Review, update and maintain Regulatory Libraries, ensuring Obligations are properly captured and correctly mapped to Controls.
    • Coordinate, gather and organize inputs from various stakeholder teams, to support assessments related to compliance with regulatory notices/ obligations.
    • Assist in updating and maintaining local enterprise risk policies/addenda to ensure continued relevance and effectiveness with alignment to Head Office’s global policies, frameworks, risk appetite and compliance to local regulations.
    • Support the team’s review and objective challenge of operational risk matters through the application of operational risk management tools such as Operational Risk Events (ORE), Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSA), New Initiative Risk Assessments (NIRA) and Key Risk Indicators (KRI).
    • Assist in performing quality control reviews on third party contracts in the Third Party Risk Management (TPRM) system.
    • Support the team on other periodic or ad hoc requests or projects as required, including: audit or regulatory requests for information, Records Inventory Management initiative, Compliance reviews etc

 

Experience / Other Information

  • Fresh graduate with studies in Accountancy/Economics/Business/Finance/ Engineering/ Science with keen interest in Finance and Risk Management. Data management and analytics skills a strong plus.
  • Strong facility with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Powerpoint.  Skills in data visualization software e.g. Power BI highly-desired.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and personal initiative, highly-organized, strong detail-orientation, excellent time-management skills, curiosity and drive to learn.
  • Ability to work well both within a team and independently on tasks.  Strong team-orientation.
  • Strong writing skills an asset.
