Purpose

 

Assisting Credit Execution, Corporate Banking Department in Singapore ensuring specific individual tasks, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
  • Assist in managing a portfolio of corporate accounts including:
    • Assist in analyzing credit data and financial statements of corporates, spreading and generating risk ratings;
    • Assist in assessing credit risk and preparing credit presentations for submissions to adjudication authority in accordance with established Bank policies and procedures;
    • Exercising sound financial statement analysis and judgement to support the team in providing accurate and precise risk assessment, effective recommendations to higher authority;
    • Assist in maintaining accounts within the conditions and limits of authorization by monitoring financial results and operational trends, provide support in identifying potential problem situations or early warning signals at an early date and initiating / recommending effective corrective action where required;
    • Assisting with documentation review & submit to relevant approval authority for approvals.

 

  • Help in collaborating with other departments to ensure timely and accurate processing of various credit related requests / matter.
  • keeping abreast of changes in accounting practices, government / tax regulations and other factors as they relate to financial statement presentation.
  • Assist in various limit reviews, limit monitoring, and credit related projects as assigned;
  • Stay informed about industry trends, geopolitical scenario and changes in credit regulations (internal or external) to ensure compliance.
  • Provide high quality service/support to Credit Execution team by:
    • Ensuring prompt response to team members’ requests and enquiries:
    • Organizing workflows to maintain maximum efficiency;
    • Handling/directing the prompt and accurate preparation of returns and other records or documents;
    • Acting as back up in the team in their absence;
    • Help in providing support to his / her supervisor on the implementation of various strategies / initiatives / projects.

 

 

Experience/Other Information

  • Bachelor of Business Administration / Major finance / Accounting or similar/higher university education.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial statements and assess creditworthiness.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills in English.
  • Good organization skills and must be able to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of the local regulatory, political and economic conditions and its effect on the profitability and credit exposure of the Bank is an added advantage.
  • Sense of responsibility and ability to work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Excel, PowerPoint and other apps standard for a banking.
  • Past work experience / internship in banking and finance will be an added advantage.
