Purpose:

Primary role as Sales Assistant to FICC ( FX and Global Fixed Income) Sales Desk of Global Banking & Markets Desk in Singapore .

Contributes to the overall success of the Global Banking & Markets in APAC ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Our Global Banking & Markets business focuses on building long-term relationships with large and multinational corporations, financial institutions, and financial sponsors.  We provide strong advisory expertise, capitalizing on powerful mergers and acquisitions, corporate banking, treasury, debt and equity product expertise to deliver integrated financial solutions.  Within a focused industry or product group, this role help orchestrate capital raising and strategic advisory transactions. 

 

Accountabilities

  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Assist FX Sales and GFI Sales (“FICC sales”) in identifying and developing business opportunities with new and existing clients, cross-selling existing relationships across other areas and product groups.
  • Assist FICC sales to complete the KYC, onboarding, credit review for new/ existing clients and handle customers' queries in a timely manner.
  • Assist FICC sales in the production of market colors, trade ideas and pitch books in addition to creating linkages between our client base and the trading desk.
  • Assist FICC sales in preparing term sheets, pricing supplements and other ancillary documents for the Fixed Income team in advance of, and upon execution of, transactions.
  • Assist FICC sales in market-making and developing customer order flows. Deals in investments and execution orders on behalf of clients. Generates and maximizes trading profit and client revenues and understands the risk profile of transactions and puts processes in place to manage those risks.
  • Assist FICC sales inputting tickets into the ION system when trade done.
  • Prepare monthly and weekly reports - maturity reports, monthly summary reports, volume and reporting the daily P&L.
  • Coordinating research, conference calls, reverse marketing, road shows and meetings with clients (external and internal) in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Coordinate / Organize Regional Conferences / Regional Events / Town Hall Meetings and other ad hoc events:
    1. Assist in site selection, prepare budget, book event venues, order food and drink, hotel booking, invitations arrangements, meeting agenda and materials preparation and coordinate on-site meeting set up and related logistic arrangement. 
  • Provide support functionality to the broader sales desk, including process improvement on functional tasks.
  • Maintaining neat and orderly filing systems and storage to ensure easy reference and recalling of files.
  • Assist in coordinating Business Continuity Planning.
  • Work closely with different teams within the Bank.

 

Pre-Requisites:

  • Undergraduate/Graduate studying for a degree/major in Accountancy, Business (Banking and Finance), Economics, and Mathematics.
  • Final Year undergraduate (preferred)
  • Cleared MAS exams (preferred)
  • Ability to work closely with traders and salespersons in a fast paced and stressful environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; e.g. Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Excellent oral/ written communication/ interpersonal skills (Essential to have good English writing skills)
  • Able to multi-task and work under pressure
  • Self-starter, and able to demonstrate initiative
  • Good Team player
  • Korean speaking is a plus
  • Familiarity with financial markets and related FICC products is a plus

  • Expose to banking regulatory and compliances
  • Gain good understanding on the use of banking process and flow in the banking industry
  • Certified in Financial Market Regulatory & Practice and/or CMFAS
  • Get familiar on how to use Bloomberg / Reuters
  • Gain insights on how to interact and support customers based on their needs
