Purpose
The role supports the APAC GBM business, and contributes to the overall success of the business and operations in region, focusing on driving strategy and productivity.

Ensure specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed/ delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures

 

Accountabilities

•    Challenge existing processes and provide analysis to enable GBM businesses and management to make thoughtful and informed decisions.

•    Develops strong working relationships with other internal stakeholders such as GRM, GWO, TFRM, Compliance, Legal and Internal Control. and leverage peer group for collaboration and collective application of their experience.

•    Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.

•    Understands and conveys the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture to ensure consistency in day-to-day activities and decisions.

•    Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
 
•    Assist in support of strategic initiatives by partnering with APAC GBM, and/or Bank stakeholders. 

•    Collaborates with APAC GBM business line heads, management team, and colleagues within GBM to establish and track objectives.

•    Evaluates business rationale of ideas and considers execution requirements.

•    Builds a high-performance environment and assists in implementing a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates by fostering an inclusive work environment through coaching.

•    Participates in key regulatory remediation activities.

•    Engages with key control groups to review and challenge process related issues impacting the business and track through to resolution.

•    Change agent: keep abreast of industry trends and continually seeking opportunities/idea generation to improve the business line processes and practices.

•    Requires a strategic and global point of view, with the ability to manage project initiatives and timelines both within GBM and across supporting departments and other business units.

•    Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues constant improvement and increased rigor around financial and strategic analysis within GBM to deliver increased transparency and actionable conclusions.

•    Engages with local and global teams to review and challenge the business line expense planning and conducts ongoing reviews to ensure all charges are appropriately allocated.

•    Leverage tools available to create/supplement and help FO Client Contact Strategy using Client Analytics, working closely with the Toronto Client Analytics team to direct what type of reporting is required for APAC GBM to be most effective in their client interactions.

•    Plan and execute regional strategic restructuring initiatives from the beginning to the end by engaging with multi-disciplinary internal teams and external advisors and regulators, including research/analysis, business cases/management presentations, regulatory applications, budgeting and resources planning,  implementation of milestones, to ensure the initiatives are completed on time and on budget as well as with financial, regulatory, tax and reputational aspects considered.

•    Provide support for regional executives’ requests as required.

•    The job interacts with many other departments both within and outside of Scotiabank. As part of the product management role, there is heavy interaction with Other Business Lines, Technology, Operations, Compliance, Product Control and other key support areas.

 

Education / Experience / Other Information (include only those that are specific to the role)

•    Minimum of 7 years Capital Markets and Banking experience
•    Skills required include: financial, project management, computer literacy, and excellent written and oral communication skills
•    Must be able to work independently demonstrating considerable initiative, creativity and sound judgement
•    Must be able to lead large strategic initiatives
•    Wide knowledge of all aspects of the business, including key regulatory and compliance requirements
