Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of the GBM Business Risk Management (BRM) team in Asia Pacific by working with GBM Asia Pacific management to ensure business strategies, goals and core values are executed/delivered in alignment with GBM’s strategies and in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Third Party Risk Management

            a) Performs the 1B function of the Bank’s Global Third Party Risk Management (TPRM) Program in APAC and fulfils the associated accountabilities.

            b) Administers and manages global and regional third parties risk assessment and control process, responding to issues when identified, and identifying significant issues to the Global and                           Regional Third Party Risk Management Committees.

  • Risk Oversight Processes - Support trade supervisory oversight and monitoring processes and tasks e.g., coordinate trading oversight reporting and Trade Floor Supervision related activities.
  • Risk Management Tools 

          a)Participate in related risk management tools as necessary, e.g. Regulatory Compliance Management Assessment Program (RCM), Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), New Initiative                     Risk Assessment (NIRA), Operational Risk Events review, Scenario Analysis.

          b) Monitor Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and the required set-up and ongoing discussions that are required as part of the refresh and challenge process.

          c) Support preparation of various local governance and management committee meetings.

  • Change Management Projects 

           a)Assist in the design, streamlining and mapping of processes.

           b)Build efficiency through sharing of best practices.

           c)Assist in reviewing business end to end process and key controls documentation.

           d)Gain exposure to key internal controls for front office to back office end-to-end process.

  

Education 

  • University degree in Accounting, Business Finance or Risk Management, or equivalent tertiary education
  • At least 4-5 years' experience in the areas of outsourcing risk management or related operational risk oversight (1B line of defense) function.
  • Experience within a large financial institution is highly preferred

Technical

  • Strong appreciation of controls and non-financial risk concepts.
  • Strong data analysis skills. Strong MS Excel skills preferred
