The team:

Scotiabank’s Global Network Engineering & Design team is responsible for developing the road-map, standards and providing the Telecommunication & Unified Communication (UC) network engineering & design to support the bank’s various global lines of business. We are working with various technology teams and committed to deliver highly-resilient telecommunication services in the campus, branches, trading floors and contact/call centers. As part of the larger Global Network Engineering team, there is involvement in end-to-end network connectivity including Wired, Wireless, Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)/Software Defined-Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) and perimeter security network technologies.


The role:

You will play a critical part in helping the team support the various technologies within our Global Network Engineering & Design team.


Is this role right for you?

  • You are passionate in delivering the network solutions that will enhance the end user experience from network access to communication and collaboration along with the digital workplace transformation within a large-scale enterprise network.
  • You thrive on being hands-on during mid to complex project deployments into production. This will include the support of assigned systems (PBX/UC Platform, SIP trunk, etc.) by acting as an internal consultant on assigned infrastructure and providing suggestions for viable solutions to systems problems of high complexity.
  • You want to be challenged with complex problem solving in time sensitive situations to reduce system downtime and customer impact.
  • You like to provide post-project production support for assigned systems by acting as a subject matter expert and escalation point on assigned infrastructure to provide suggestions for viable solutions on systems problems and enhancement.
  • You want to work on product evaluation and develop technical standards and road-maps documents and champion their implementation.
  • You want to mentor and coach others within assigned area, transferring subject matter expertise to other IT practitioners where appropriate.


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • You have at least 5+ years of progressive hands-on technical working experience with Internet Protocol (IP) Network systems & technologies, including, but not limited to Cisco Routers, Switches, Firewalls, IP subnetting, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name Server (DNS), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF).
  • You also have at least 5 years working experience in VMware deployment, backup & migration.
  • You maintain a solid track record with problem solving, reliability and decision-making skills to resolve work issues quickly in a dynamic environment with tight timelines & pressure.
  • You are capable in mentoring junior level team members and knowledge sharing with peers.
  • You can demonstrate the leadership skills, technical experience, and a “can-do” approach towards environment automation / management & continuous improvement for efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • You have a post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, Networking Technology or in related field. Certifications in CCIE (Collaboration) and/or CCNP (Routing & Switching) are an asset.
