The Team

  • We are the CBT BrAIn Team (Canadian Banking Technology Branch, Analytics and Insurance), focused on proudly supporting technology projects delivered to our Canadian Branch business partners and our ScotiaLife Financial business partners. 
  • We work closely with our Business Partners, Developers, Vendors and various partners within the Bank to ensure we deliver successful projects which align with the overall business strategies and roadmaps ensuring the highest quality experience for the customer. 
  • Most projects are across multiple retail products and multiple Bank channels. The projects relate to new products and/or product enhancements on multiple systems and platforms. The focus is on providing solutions that assist front line staff in providing better servicing to our customers and increase sales & productivity. 
  • The group is a mix of business analysts, solutions experts, specialists and developers who provide value by delivering projects that meet the needs of our Insurance Business line. We develop Insurance Roadmaps, ensure end-to-end project delivery, write technical stories, develop code, manage stakeholders and connect related teams.

 

The Role:

The Senior Manager – Development is responsible for the delivery of business and technology related solutions for our various lines of Business. Leading a team of up to 15 developers, you will be responsible for application stewardship, day to day operations, and project delivery for several applications related to our Creditor Insurance portfolio; you will also provide technical thought leadership, navigates us through production issues and investigations, and be a key advocate of efficiency and continual improvement as we work to modernize our platforms.

 

Is this role right for you?

  • Manage and coach a team of developers - guide and mentor developers through technical issues and challenges and their employment journey – be “present”, take ownership of items, and drive to resolution as necessary
  • Develop and support of chequing and analytics systems. Understands Canadian Retail Banking and Creditor Insurance from several points of view and aligns IT&S systems and processes to address critical information and technical requirements
  • Acts as the Subject Matter Expert and holds overall accountability for application operations and stability
  • Participate in design discussions on scalability, performance, security, and best practices
  • Participates in all phases of the IT System Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Responsible for representing and successfully navigating projects through the internal Bank processes.
  • Participates as technical or business consultant in design, development, coding, testing, and debugging new packaged solutions or significant enhancements to existing applications.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • You are highly technical and curious, not afraid to jump in and get hands-on with developers.
  • You also have experience coaching and mentoring developers, helping them create training plans and motivating them to bring their best!
  • Excellent Computer Science Fundamentals; Object Oriented Design; Java Design Patterns; API design and testing
  • Previous experience delivering mission critical systems in an agile environment
  • 5+ years of experience leading application delivery or support teams. Previously worked as a lead developer or technical lead
  • 5+ years of experience in Pega BPM family of products
  • 5+ years of experience with Java, Spring Boot, and/or API development
  • Understanding of cloud-based deployments
  • Familiarity with API design patterns, Micro Services and Micro UI development
