The Team


The International Banking Modernization & Architecture team provides strategic direction on application design and architecture, as well as supports digital sales and the middleware platform. This team works in partnership with International Banking business lines and other technology teams to create modern applications, meeting the ever-changing needs of our customers.


This team primarily supports the applications and systems used by the Caribbean, Central America and Uruguay regions. Working closely with the Enterprise Architecture and Cloud Platform(“Plato”) groups, this team ensures all application changes are aligned with the Bank’s overall strategic direction. This team focuses on cloud native development and patterns while also supporting existing systems and planning modernization roadmaps. This team also provides guidance, support and promotes collaboration across the divisions to create global reusable platforms.


The Role

As a Principal Engineer on the IB Modernization & Architectural team, you will be a key team member with various accountabilities:

  • Designing, building and supporting a Micro services API economy in support of our International Banking division.
  • Taking pride in building highly adaptive teams.
  • Providing coaching and hands on examples of new and better ways to meet the needs of our customers.
  • Creating and supporting a culture that values collaboration, trust, simplicity and continuous feedback.
  • Working with assigned value stream teams in support of the modernization of their applications.


Is this role right for you?

  • You want to act as a Subject Matter Expert/Mentor and hold overall accountability for business requirement review, technical delivery and implementation of assigned projects/products
  • You enjoy providing input into the technology and infrastructure road maps for the division
  • You will work closely with Solutions Architects, and Enterprise Architects, to ensure that applications are aligned to the Bank standards.
  • You want to perform code reviews and provide coaching to other team members to ensure high quality code is being produced.
  • You want to conduct research and provide recommendations for enhancements to the strategic technology evolution of the organization based on new and emerging technologies.
  • You want to collaborate with the business, enterprise architecture, and your peers in other groups across the Bank to ensure alignment of technical solutions to both the business and overall Bank strategies.


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • Solid knowledge of Rest APIs, Microservices, Cloud development, Caching
  • Experience with Java, JavaScript, XML, SQL, NoSQL, LDAP, OAuth, Spring Boot
  • Experience with Cryptography and SSL
  • Ability to create, maintain and control complex development task plans
  • Ability to work with teams to create and deliver projects on schedule
  • Strong technical understanding and problem-solving skills
  • Self motivated
  • Hands on/technical knowledge experience with web-based technologies, DevOPs and Agile/Scum methodology, continuous integration and deployment
