As the Director of Software Development, you are responsible for the full development life cycle of our Scotia Online business, managing programs and the direction of technical and business resources within the IT business line. You will be managing a set of tasks and techniques used to work as a liaison among various stakeholders in order to understand the structure, policies, and operations of an organization, and to recommend technical and business solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals. To achieve this, you will direct a team of IT Managers and professionals responsible for the design, development, delivery and support of IT business solutions for Scotia Online.

Is this role right for you? 

  • You'll work closely with the team(s) on continuous improvement of Scotia Online, which includes working closely with a team that is modernizing our systems.
  • You'll plan and direct application and technology projects, ensuring objectives and timelines are met while providing ongoing support.
  • You'll be managing and supervising teams in the areas of scheduling, technical direction, future planning and standard development practices. This also includes the recruitment of qualified development staff.
  • You'll need to build and maintain a strong working relationship with peers and management within the business lines
  • You'll manage the budget processes and quality improvement activities for your department and/or projects.
  • You'll participate in long-range strategic planning and manage policy development to address complex business issues.


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed?

  • You have 7 or more years of IT and business/industry work experience, which includes experience working with large and complex systems; existing systems and new technologies.
  • You get how a business works; with an understanding of vision, financial objectives, processes, the strategic importance of projects and how they relate to Scotiabank's goals, how projects interact and impact change.
  • You have proven experience in the project management of highly complex technology projects, with experience in scheduling, resource allocation, risk management and systems design
  • You've managed vendors, including contract negotiations and managing outsourcers.
  • You have experience managing offshore resources.
  • You have in-depth knowledge of the principles, theories, practices, and techniques for managing the activities related to planning, managing and implementing software projects and programs.
  • You've completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related fields, OR have equivalent work experience.
