Job Purpose

The Director Global Networks Business Process Management leads a team of process engineers and business analysts to proactively partner with Global Network Services leaders, Internal Audit, IT Risk and IT&S partners to drive Continuous Service Improvement and risk management through process change and remediation activities that support GTS business strategy.


Key Accountabilities


Business and Operational Planning

- Participate in long-range strategy planning, IT/Business roadmap alignment and management of policy development addressing complex business issues and the strategic priorities of the supported lines of business.

- Lead and identify Continuous Service Improvement (CSI) opportunities for process streamlining and efficiency change initiatives


Reporting and Key Performance Indicators

- Lead the implementation of GNS Key Performance Indicators (KPI) initiativre to report on network service availability and performance

- Accountable for the service reporting of GNS services to internal and external stakeholders

- Develop and lead team to implement online dashboard for real-time reporting of GNS services


Stakeholder Management

- Work with the business unit leaders and forms alliances on projects, operational decisions, scheduling requirements/conflict and vendor management contracts.

- Socialize technology roadmaps and ensure that Scotiabank maximizes the value received from its infrastructure technology investments

  •   Liaise with technology and business lines to obtain input into, and socialize technology roadmaps
  •   Act as the departmental infrastructure technology expert.  Play an active role in understanding industry trends and new technologies, and provide leadership in driving cost risk technologies reduction thru innovative technology solutions
  •   Establish the long-term (3-5 years) technology vision and contribute to the development of the Bank’s reference architecture
  •   Work with strategic suppliers / internal delivery organizations to ensure that Scotiabank benefits from leading industry practices and technologies
  •   Assess technology currency and to develop improvement plans


Business Analysis

  • Work as a liaison among various stakeholders in order to understand the structure, policies, and operations of an organization in order to elicit, analyze, communicate, and validate IT and business requirements for change to business processes, polices, and information technology systems.
  • The incumbent will collaborate with technical staff to recommend technical / business solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals. Completion of the business case as appropriate, as well as clean articulation of business outcomes.


Program Management

  •  Proactively identify key project issues with the potential to impact project objectives and lead the project team in developing creative/alternative solutions to mitigate the risk and satisfactorily address the issues in a timely and cost-effective manner
  •  Ongoing communications of program status and escalate issues to the Business Sponsor, IT&S Sponsor, the Head, PMO or EVP, IT&S as required. Ensure the documentation and archiving of project activities, deliverables, tools and finders for use in future projects


Supplier Management

- Negotiation and management of contractual obligations with third parties.

- Track current supplier contracts (carriers, hardware, software, maintenance, etc.), manage renewals and competitive bidding process to drive a vibrant supplier ecosystem for GNS


People Management

- Functionally managing direct reports and technical teams in the areas of scheduling, technical direction, future planning and standard development practices.

  • Provides counseling and coaching
  • Recruits qualified resources for projects
  • Develops departmental capability to exploit technology and develop expertise to meet future business requirements
  • Ensures succession planning for all critical positions


Financial Management

- Manage the budgeting processes and quality improvement activities for his/her department and/or projects:

  • Interprets, applies and monitors return on parameters and performance indicators for all new initiatives supported by the area
  • May be required to work with Project Management, Business Analysis and Finance resources to ensure appropriate financial management of projects and operations
  • Interprets and implements continuous improvement process for production issues to ensure the effective and timely resolution of problems and knowledge transfer


Functional Competencies

• Holds a relevant and recognized degree and proven IT experience with an emphasis on highly complex systems/business initiatives.

• 10 to 15 years of IT and business work experience in technology consulting, with background in Banking and/or Capital Markets industries.

• Expertise in very complex business and technical processes and their implications across the enterprise.

• Business knowledge and experience (understanding of vision, financial objectives/how business functions and core processes interact/the strategic importance of projects, how they relate to Scotiabank's goals, how projects interact/impact of change and/or delays in projects).

• Experienced in vendor management, including contract negotiations and managing suppliers.

• Process knowledge and experience in scheduling, resource allocation, risk management and systems design.

• Strategic thinker - Understands long term business strategies and can create infrastructure technology strategies aligned to them

• Work as a change leader - Able to lead major organization change programs

• Results-oriented project champion, with ability to lead at the executive level major infrastructure projects

• Working familiarity with project management methodologies


Educational/Work Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Science, Engineering or computer science or diploma in networking technology.
  • Requires a minimum 10 years of relevant experience industry experience
  • Spanish language skills will be considered an asset but not a requirement
