Purpose


The Senior Manager, Portfolio Management role within International Banking Retail requires a strategic mindset and strong analytical capability to oversee and optimize credit-portfolio performance across multiple markets. This role is critical to maintaining portfolio quality, identifying emerging risks, and supporting growth opportunities. The selected candidate will work closely with Lending teams, Credit Risk teams, and senior management to ensure alignment with the Bank’s risk appetite, regulatory standards, and business objectives.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

•    Monitor and manage credit-portfolio performance, ensuring alignment with market conditions, the value proposition, pricing strategy, risk appetite, and established distribution channels.

 

•    Lead periodic pricing reviews (yield/spreads/fees) by segment/product and monitor performance against financial targets (NII, NIR, NIM, RAM, RAR, NIAT); recommend adjustments as needed.

 

•    Develop, maintain, and monitor KPIs and portfolio performance models.

 

•    Ensure data governance and reporting (KPI definitions, reconciliations with Finance and Analytics, data quality controls, and dashboard automation).

 

•    Manage profitability by cohort/vintage (loss curves, ROE/RAROC, payback) and recommend adjustments to pricing, limits, and campaigns.

 

•    Conduct market intelligence and competitive analysis; lead portfolio-optimization initiatives.

 

•    Prepare and lead portfolio committees (monthly/quarterly), including insights, decision proposals, minutes, and action tracking, aligned with the Retail Banking strategy.

 

•    Partner with Credit Risk, Collections, Treasury, Finance, Legal, Operations, and Technology to support portfolio objectives.

 

•    Promote portfolio strategy and the value proposition across the organization.

•    Demonstrate prudent risk-taking and adherence to applicable regulations, internal policies, and ethical standards.


•    Ensure transparent escalation, tracking, and resolution of control issues.

 

•    Operational Compliance: Ensures effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles. Ensures the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.

 

•    Team Leadership: Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors. Communicates vision/values/business strategy and manages succession and development planning for the team

 

Education / Experience

 

•    Bilingual (English and Spanish).

 

•    Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred in Business Administration, Finance, or Economics.

 

•    Minimum 5 years of experience in the financial sector.

 

•    Strong capabilities in credit-portfolio risk analysis and financial assessment.

 

•    Proficiency in data analysis, reporting tools, and visualization platforms.

 

•    Ability to navigate and integrate data from multiple IT systems.

 

•    Excellent collaboration and stakeholder-management skills.

 

•    Ability to make strategic decisions and solve problems.

 

•    Strong communication and presentation skills.

 

•    Commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

 

•    Demonstrated leadership in strategic initiatives and process improvements.
