Purpose
Leads and oversees local Private Banking operation, ensuring that business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
Accountabilities
• Leads and drives a customer centric focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank connections, systems, and knowledge
• Leads an experienced team of Wealth Managers, Total Wealth Client Service Officers, Credit Advisors, and Client Service Manager, focused on serving the bank's most valuable clients in their holistic banking, investments, financial, and credit needs, supported by a team of experts.
• Defines the strategy of the business, approves its plan, and sponsors tactical initiatives needed to position the private banking business within the top three players in the market. Also, will design and implement, in coordination with the Regional Head and Head Office, new products and services, improvements in the team structure, commercial strategy and incentive plans.
• Implements the value proposition for Private Banking, as well as the business segmentation and client mobility following the global standards in collaboration with the Regional and Head Office team.
• Understands best practices, market trends, macroeconomic variables, and investment markets to better serve clients, ensuring to rank among the top three players in the market.
• Leads the implementation of the Wealth Lending strategy in the country, ensuring that Wealth Managers receive the appropriate support from Credit Advisors. Similarly, collaborates with the head of Investment Advisory to ensure that Private Banking clients receive the appropriate investment support.
• Leads the development and execution of private banking operational processes, pricing strategies, client experience, branding and communication, entirely aligned to global standards and in coordination with the Regional and Head Office team.
• Leads the design, implementation, control and tracking of continuous enhancements of commercial disciplines for Wealth Managers and Credit Advisors, aligned to the Total Wealth model and sales management disciplines in coordination with Regional and Head Office.
• Defines and manages business growth goals, acquisition, retention, and customer satisfaction goals for the unit under his direction
• Accountable for the unit P&L and business performance
• Manages and tracks business development results of Wealth Managers and Credit Advisors, identifying opportunities and gaps. Responsible to implement business initiatives and monitoring KPIs, such as sales activities,
# new clients, volumes, revenue, attrition, unit expenses, etc.
• Reviews and optimizes the customer journey, considering customer satisfaction results (Pulse - NPS). Assesses and solves the “pain points” of the customers, in collaboration with various stakeholders, such as business units, operation units, products teams, risks management, etc.
• Defines and monitor the yearly goals of Wealth Managers and Credit Advisors, ensuring the profitability goals of the business are met. Also manages unit budget, including the incentive plans.
• Collaborates with the other business units in Wealth Management and the bank, particularly with Investment Advisory team, both onshore and offshore, to ensure the delivery of a holistic global solution for our clients, making sure opportunities are maximized
• Supports the team in the development of sales strategies and management, including client prospecting, also promoting an exceptional customer relationship management
• Develops strong relationships with Scotiabank partners (business, products, and channel), including corporate and commercial banking team, retail and our Total Wealth global partners Offshore Private Banking, Brokerage, Trust, Asset management or Investment Advisory.
• Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
• Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
• Builds a high-performance environment and implements a workforce strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates its team, and to achieve this, fosters an inclusive work environment, communicates the vision, values, and business strategy, and manages a training, succession and development plan for the team
Specific Responsibilities - Sales Practices
• Responsible for the implementation and execution of the Sales Conduct Program within the business unit, ensuring compliance with appropriate procedures as outlined in Scotiabank's Global Sales Principles, "tone from the middle"
• Monthly monitoring of promoter performance to detect inappropriate sales conducts, through approved controls, tools, and processes. Also identifies and escalates issues, including, but not limited to root cause analysis, definition, and monitoring of remediation action plans.
• Monitors quarterly report of key sales behavior indicators, findings, and status updates for the Country´s Sales Conduct Officer and Senior Line Manager
• Ensures adequate control of sales, incentives and KPIs within the business unit.
• Establishes and coordinates corrective action plans with local Sales Conduct Officer and Senior Management as required
• Ensures the staff’s completion of all mandatory training material, including Sales Conduct Program and provides ongoing training to ensure alignment with Scotiabank's Global Sales Principles
Skills
• Minimum 10 years of experience in the financial system, preferably in Private Banking.
• MBA, Master’s in finance or Professional Financial Planner (PFP) or Chartered Financial Planner (CFP) designation, CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) level 1 approved, and/or any other industryrelated accreditation is highly desired.
• Experience in leading commercial teams is highly desirable.
• Clear commercial skills in prospecting and maintenance of clients, as well as planning and followup.
• Knowledge of Banking Products and Investment Products: Mutual Funds, Stocks, Bonds, Reporting Operations, etc.; as well as Wealth Lending products such as pledge loans and income property lending loans.
• Knowledge of economics and markets, Financial Mathematics; Financial analysis; Banking Regulation; tax issues; Risk analysis techniques, policies, and procedures for granting credits that apply to personal and commercial loan products.
• Knowledge of customer segmentation and competitive market analysis skills
• Spanish and English communication skills
