Director, Global AML Operations Dominican Republic
Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:30pm / Saturdays 4 hour upon units request
Purpose
Leads and manages the Global AML Operations unit at GBS DR providing risk management support across the business lines, including but not limited to investigation of high-risk clients and transactions. Ensures business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed complying with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures as well as ensure efficient day to day operations of the units in collaboration with AML Program Owners, in meeting tactical and strategic goals. The Director will also provide assurance to partners, such as AML Risk, Business Lines & Governance, that due diligence for high-risk customers meet the Bank standards.
Responsible for understanding enterprise operating models and staying up to date with changes in AML/ATF and KYC regulatory environment applicable with the objective of delivering on global solutions and proposing adaptions to meet local regulatory requirements, while also ensure that all material changes and updates are being reflected in the applicable procedure manuals.
Accountabilities
• Providing day-to-day operational and risk management oversight of the AML Operations units, acting as the point of escalation for approval of High-Risk clients and transactions and ensuring the team has a robust understanding of the applicable internal policies and procedures, regulatory requirements and Bank’s policies.
• Ensure that all KPIs and KRIs established between the AML Operations units, and the different stakeholders are met. In case of deviations, ensure to promptly report to Sr. Management and provide sustainable action plans to recover.
• Develops effective methods to monitor and evaluate work quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the regulatory program’s activities in coordination with Business Unit management.
• Promotes awareness of applicable AML standards, upstream risks and industry best practices across the Business Units in the region.
• Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates the team; fosters inclusivity, communicates vision/values/business strategy and manages succession and development planning for the team.
• Complete performance evaluations and employee development plan to ensure annual performance measures are aligned with the unit’s priorities and assess performance of staff against such targets.
• Leads and drives a client focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
• Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
• Creates an environment for effective and efficient team operations, ensuring adherence to business controls and compliance with operational, regulatory, AML/ATF, and conduct risk obligations.
• Supports various workstreams with operational remediation requirements, ensuring that volumes are managed, and output meets quality assurance requirements.
• Ensures that evidence and supporting documentation is managed in accordance with enterprise and regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
• Professional of Business Administration, Industrial Engineering or any related career.
• 8+ years of financial services and management experience.
• Thorough knowledge of banking, regulatory risk, Scotiabank policies, procedures, and internal control principles. Breadth of experience in risk management, audit, compliance, operations or related areas.
• Business line experience and understanding of systems and products. International Banking experience an asset and dealing with diverse groups.
• Proven leadership skills and ability to coach and develop staff.
• Demonstrates strong project management skills and sound judgment in regulatory compliance. Assists in setting up projects for high-risk clients or transactions.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. Fluency in English is required.
• Understands risk management, including operational, regulatory, and risks related to new products, programs, and business initiatives.
• Ability to identify with the necessary consultative procedures and maintain a broad perspective of the long-term business strategies and management objectives of the Bank and its subsidiaries.
