Director Strategic Initiatives

Purpose:

Reporting directly to the CFO Peru and jointly to COO International banking, strategic Initiatives plays a critical role in advancing the success of the bank in Peru (the “Bank”). This role ensures the effective execution of key goals, plans, and initiatives that support the team’s broader business strategies and objectives.

As a strategic leader, the Director shapes the long-term direction of the Bank by leading the strategic planning process, defining future-focused goals, and aligning initiatives to deliver measurable outcomes. The role also establishes and promotes the use of strategic frameworks, tools, and governance routines to monitor progress and continuously suggest refinements to the strategic plan. While the focus is in country initiatives, alignment to the regional IB strategy is a key guiding principle of project/strategic execution.

In addition, the Director enhances how performance and outcomes are measured across the Bank, ensuring initiatives are coordinated to maximize strategic impact and value. This position also provides leadership to drive transformational change, identify high-impact initiatives, and ensure all strategies and plans are executed in alignment with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Education, Experience and Other Information

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business, Strategy, or related fields preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in strategy and or chief of staff roles.
  • Proven leader in strategic planning, project execution, and organizational growth, with expertise in change management.
  • Technically proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
  • Thrives in dynamic environments, balancing multiple priorities with minimal direction

 

Accountabilities:

  • Champions a client-centric culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Partners with the Peru leadership team to design, develop, and continuously refine strategic plans that align with organizational goals. In addition, responsible for establishing and managing governance forums to track progress on strategic priorities and ensure accountability.
  • Collaborates with leadership to define and evolve performance indicators and key metrics that drive strategic decision-making. In addition, identifies organizational bottlenecks and recommends structural or process improvements.
  • Develops compelling strategic communications and executive presentations that clearly convey leadership’s vision, priorities, and direction—enhancing alignment, engagement, and understanding across the organization.
  • Drives team enablement by ensuring the Country leadership team are well prepared for all internal and external engagements.
  • Establishes and sustains a centre of excellence, acting as a neutral connector across teams to align initiatives, identify synergies, and drive optimization. Maintains a global perspective on programs and initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and evaluating their effectiveness in collaboration with cross-functional partners.
  • Applies research-driven insights to anticipate trends and identify opportunities for innovation and guide strategic transformation within Peru.
  • Builds trusted relationships with key stakeholders, acting as a strategic advisor and partner in the execution of strategic initiatives. Provides holistic and insightful advisory support, including preparation of briefing materials, decision memos, and scenario analysis for CFO and senior leadership. 
  • Contributes to the overall success of the Bank in Peru, ensuring all activities conducted in accordance with Scotiabank’s values and Code of Conduct and in compliance with governing regulation and internal policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
