Purpose
The Manager, Accounting & Reconciliation leads the Accounting & Reconciliation function within Trade Finance Operations and is accountable for ensuring reconciliation controls, accounting activities, management review, exception governance, and financial control oversight are executed effectively and in accordance with established procedures. The role provides leadership to analysts, drives issue resolution, and ensures the integrity of Trade Finance accounting and reconciliation processes. 

 

What You'll Do:

LEADERSHIP & PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

  • Lead and develop a team of Accounting & Reconciliation Analysts.
  • Establish performance expectations and provide coaching and development.
  • Ensure adequate training, cross-training and succession planning.
  • Foster a strong risk and control culture within the team.

 

RECONCILIATION & CONTROL OVERSIGHT

  • Review and approve daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reconciliation activities.
  • Ensure reconciliations are completed accurately and within established timelines.
  • Provide independent review and sign-off of control activities.
  • Monitor control effectiveness and identify opportunities to strengthen processes and 
    automation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures and governance standards. 

 

EXCEPTION GOVERNANCE & ESCALATION MANAGEMENT

  • Oversee investigation and remediation of reconciliation breaks, unposted entries and accounting exceptions.
  • Monitor aging of outstanding exceptions and ensure timely escalation.
  • Facilitate regular review meetings with Trade Finance Operations and key stakeholders.
  • Escalate material issues, aged breaks and control deficiencies to Senior Management and Directors as required.
  • Ensure action plans are established and tracked through completion. 

 

ACCOUNTING & FINANCIAL CONTROL

  • Oversee manual GL postings, expense processing and accounting adjustments.
  • Ensure accounting entries comply with authorization and documentation standards.
  • Review exception reports and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial reporting outputs and supporting documentation.
  • Support regulatory, audit and compliance requirements. 

 

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

  • Act as primary liaison with Trade Finance Operations, Corporate Lending Services, Trade Finance Risk Control, Business Banking Operations, Canadian Banking, Technology and Delivery Support teams
  • Coordinate remediation efforts for cross-functional issues impacting accounting integrity and reconciliation outcomes.
  • Present exception trends and control status updates to senior management. 
  • RISK MANAGEMENT & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
    Ensure monthly control reporting is completed and escalated appropriately.
  • Identify recurring issues, process gaps and operational risks.
  • Lead automation and process enhancement initiatives.
  • Promote operational excellence through standardization and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure records, signoffs and supporting evidence are retained in accordance with retention requirements.

 

What You'll Bring:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related discipline.
  • 7-10 years of banking operations, accounting, reconciliation or financial control experience.
  • Working knowledge of Trade Finance, accounting controls and reconciliation frameworks.
    Experience leading teams in a regulated financial institution.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage risk, controls, audits and regulatory requirements.
  • Advanced analytical, stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience with Trade360, LoanIQ, DUCO, Intralink/IRIS and related banking systems is highly desirable
