Is this role right for you? You will be responsible for:


  • Support the implementation of cost-effective applications to meet the business objectives by, providing detailed technical designs, investigating and recommending new technology. Ensure all applications developed have a high degree of integrity, reliability and availability to meet the requirements of the online transaction processing environment.
  • Elicit User requirements via interviews, workshops, questionnaires, workflow storyboards, use cases, scenarios, process modeling, analysis of existing systems and documentation, and other methods. The incumbent also required to document the User requirements in the form of BRD, FRD and User Stories.
  • Provide technical expertise, guidance, advice and knowledge transfer to all support staff on all aspects of client/server computing, programming, database technology, networking within a multi-protocol environment. The incumbent is also required to provide recommendations on departmental standards surrounding systems architecture, application development, systems integration, data modeling, testing, as well as, performing reviews and walkthroughs of all major project deliverables to ensure the quality and completeness of functionality.
  • Undertake project leadership duties to the most technically complex applications by developing detailed work plans, scheduling resources, monitoring progress against plan, ensuring development is conducted according to standards, providing leadership to staff and reviewing all work delivered.
  • Provide production and user acceptance testing application support to the most complex technical problems on all applications that service each business unit by analyzing problems, implementing solutions and developing new procedures surrounding support. The incumbent is required to carry a beeper and be available at all times to provide support to global business units worldwide which is made more challenging due to the remoteness of the sites and the difference in time zones.
  • Maintain a good understanding of the Division’s business strategies, business policies, financial instruments, risk management and back office processing. In addition, the incumbent is required to provide leadership and specialized consultation in defining, planning and maintaining a strategy for the architecture development and implementation of technology, systems and MIS within the Division to provide effective technical consulting and support services to the Division.
  • Ensure the department’s objectives are met by assisting in recruiting qualified staff, keeping turnover low, providing input to performance appraisals on time and maintaining up to date knowledge of technology, industry and business practices.

  • The incumbent must have an expert knowledge of all aspects of Information Technology and industry practices as well as a detailed understanding of systems architecture.
  • The incumbent must have excellent analytical, problem solving and trouble shooting skills in order to quickly and effectively resolve problems in an online trading environment. The incumbent must be highly creative in identifying and researching technical solutions to resolve business problems. The incumbent must be able to take abstract concepts and apply them to formulate solutions and often work in variable, precedent setting situations requiring the ability to quickly identify and resolve unique problems. The incumbent must have detailed knowledge of all applications supported by the department in order to provide user support.
  • The incumbent must have specialized mastery of all aspect of technology within a client/server environment:
  • System analysis and design
  • Multiple computing platforms
  • Programming languages, methodologies and database technology (Oracle and Postgre SQL)
  • Networking, communications, online transaction processing (OLTP) technology
  • Object Oriented programming (Java, other proprietary languages)
  • Message based technologies (Kafka, MQ, SWIFT)
  • Hardware and operating system configuration, application performance and tuning
  • Application software packages used by the Division and EDP security standards
  • The incumbent should have the knowledge of agile methodology and frameworks like Scrum, Kanban etc.
  • The incumbent must keep current with rapidly changing technological trends and provide recommendations on the future technological directions and architecture of the Divisions. The incumbent must have a broad knowledge of the Banks products, services, market trends, computer services, planning and control tools and organizational structure.
  • The incumbent should have an understanding of COBIT principles and best practices for Data Security. The incumbent must have good interpersonal and communication skills in order to deliver proposals, provide consultation to development staff and interact with diverse user groups from clerical to senior management level. A post graduate degree in a computer science, math or engineering related discipline is desirable, along with at least 8-10 years of practical experience in developing and deploying complex technology is essential.
