Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of the Equities Product Control in the U.S. ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted follow governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
Reporting to the Director, US Equities Product Control, the incumbent is primarily responsible for designing and implementing process and systems solutions for daily PL reporting, daily/monthly accounting, balancing and reconciliations for US Equities. They will supervise daily/monthly PL production and review balance sheet attestations.
The incumbent will interact with several functional areas within and outside of Product Control. The key internal relationships outside of Product Control will be the Equities Front Office, Operations, Finance, Risk Management, and Change Technology teams.
What You’ll Do
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Ensures that the accounts and financial records of the US Equities business are being maintained according to International Financial Reporting Standards, policies and procedures set by Scotiabank Executive Offices and the local regulators.
- Develop quality financial management information reporting solutions to the business line, including accurate daily/weekly/monthly/yearly portfolio and consolidated level PL and monthly balance sheet reporting.
- Full ownership for providing PL and related supporting information to trading desk, Risk Management and Finance including full decomposition of PL by risk factors to ensure business partners have a clear understanding of the underlying drivers of the PL. Preparation of market commentaries on a Daily, Monthly, Quarterly basis to explain significant PL movements & events.
- Continuously review assigned procedures across the team to ensure that they are effective, efficient, and controlled. Suggest and develop on-going methods of improving accurate data collection globally, streamlining reporting, sharing best practices and cross-training team members.
- Deep diving and problem resolutions in resolving day to day PL issues (following up with GWO/Front Office).
- Heavy involvement in Transformation projects.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Supervises the preparation of Independent Price Valuation (IPV).
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook, and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

What You’ll Bring
- Extensive subject matter expertise on Equities, Convertible Bonds and Options products.
- In depth experience with Broadridge, Qlikview, Global One, Peoplesoft & Oracle Financial Accounting Hub
- Extensive knowledge of the existing Scotiabank Equities’ infrastructure and operating procedures
- Advanced education (MBA) is preferred, but not required
- Prior management experience with 1-2+ individuals
- Finra Series 99 required
