Purpose

 

Supports GBM Data Office, Global Banking and Markets, ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Ensures a cohesive communication strategy across all committees, audit, and regulatory engagements for the GBM Data Office.

 


What You’ll Do 

 

  • Works with all pillars of the GBM Data Office to understand all activities and timelines being performed currently and planned for the future.

  • Acts as primary point of contact for all Audit and Regulatory engagements for the GBM Data Office.

  • Collaborates with Internal Control and supports US businesses with Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSAs) exercise from a data risk perspective.

  • Participates in the New Initiative Risk Assessment (NIRA) and Architecture Review Board ( ARB) processes in order to ensure that the Data Office's requirements are identified early in the initiative process.

  • Aggregates and tracks all timelines and deliverables for all Audit and Regulatory engagements for the GBM Data Office.

  • Manages, compiles, and submits all materials for committees either run by the GBM Data Office, or where the GBM Data Office regularly contributes updates.

  • Ensures business stakeholder understanding, alignment and commitment to the objectives of the data governance and management program. 

  • Understands business requirements and aligns them to the objectives of the data management program.

  • Champions the adoption of a data culture.

  • Collaborates with partners to develop and enhance the Bank’s overall data governance and management capabilities, policy, practices, and supporting technology.

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. 

  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.
     


What You’ll Bring 

 

  • Understanding of organizational design and the ability to shape and drive large-scale, cross-functional programs around people, technology, processes, and tools.
  • Experience with strategic influencing and education of cross-functional stakeholders regarding the value of data governance.
  • Experience with data governance, Data Quality and general data management tools and techniques.
  • 8+ years of Data Management related experience (e.g. Data Quality, Metadata, Issue Management, Reference Data, Data Provisioning, etc.)
  • 8+ years in Financial Services 
  • Knowledge of US/Canadian financial regulatory environment is preferred
  • Global Banking and Markets experience preferred 
  • Degree in IT or Business preferred
