Purpose
 

Contributes to the overall success of the U.S. International Money Markets and Funding Desk in the U.S. ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Under the supervision of the Director, Head of USD Funding Desk, this position supports the development of investors’ relationships and the execution of the Bank's short-term USD funding activities encompassing the Bank’s USD commercial paper and certificate of deposit program. IMMF North America maintains a presence in the global markets through its coordination of funding activity in New York, Toronto, London, and Singapore.



What You’ll Do 

 

  • Client Relationship Management

    • Build relationships with direct investors for the purpose of the debt issuance programs of Scotiabank, with a focus on the USD Yankee Certificate of Deposits, Commercial Paper and Asset-Backed Commercial Paper programs.

    • Support in maintaining existing relationships with institutional clients such as asset managers, banks, insurance companies, pension funds or corporates.

    • Participate in the execution of the overall strategy to channel an increased volume of issuance towards direct investors.

    • Foster new sales relationships; key support for cross-selling across the organization by partnering with the fixed income sales, credit sales, repo sales desks and GTB partners.

    • Responsible for client marketing efforts, including covering on pitches and attending meetings with investors.

    • Help coordinate client meetings, calls, and trade executions, ensuring all client needs are met efficiently.

    • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge. 

    • Responsible for the end-to-end onboarding process of new clients and ensuring that the clients’ experience is outstanding.
       

  • Trade Execution and Market Analysis

    • Provide runs, book trades, ensure that all trades are processed, coordinating with the rest of the STF desk on pricing, but also with middle and back office for operations.

    • Assist other senior sales members with trade execution and collaborate with the trading desk to ensure smooth and timely transactions.

    • Monitor and analyze market trends, and how it evolves with clients’ interests and objectives.

    • Prepare market reports and ad-hoc presentations for clients and internal stakeholders.

    • Distribute research and market commentaries to the appropriate investor base.

    • Stay up-to-date on developments in the fixed income market, and relevant market news.
       

  • Sales Performance & Analytics
    •    Maintain key activities generated by the USD Funding Desk (meeting notes, transactions, client product preferences etc.) up-to-day in SalesForce or other sales tracking tools.
    •    Prepare internal reports on sales performance, market activity, and client engagement.
    •    Help monitor sales activities and progress toward team goals, providing insights and recommendations as necessary.
    •    Keep up to date on sales technology and solutions.
    •    Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements in all sales activities.
    •    Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
    •    Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. 

     

     

     

What You’ll Bring 

 

  • Undergraduate degree or graduate degree in finance, economics or quantitative field.
  • CFA, FRM or other financial designation preferred.
  • FINRA Series (SEI, Series 7, Series 63) or the willingness to acquire them within the defined timeline.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a sales role within fixed income, financial services, or capital markets.
  • Understanding of fixed income products (bonds, government securities, corporate debt, etc.) and capital markets.
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with financial and non-financial data platforms (Bloomberg, SQL) and market analysis tools.
  • Experience with sales tool (e.g. SalesForce) 
  • Strong analytical skills and data management skills, with programming skills (Python) being strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.
  • A proactive attitude, eagerness to learn, and the ability to work effectively in a front-office team.
