Purpose
Lead, execute, and manage Internal Control, COO, and Operations audits to assess the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls relating to wholesale bank and trading operations and internal control within the U.S. This Manager’s role will focus on Internal Control and COO areas coverage, requiring an individual with a good understanding of regulatory requirements and controls landscape within Global Banking & Markets (GBM). As a Manager, you will be required to work as part of the team and assist the Senior Managers and/or Director, US Internal Control & Global Wholesale Operations Audit to provide audit services to capital markets and/or treasury functions within the Bank. You will also support the providing of high quality, value added advisory services to Management as part of the audits or special projects/assignments, while ensuring that audit methodology standards are met.
Apart from knowledge of the design and effectiveness Internal control and COO areas supporting capital markets trading, investment banking, global transaction banking, and corporate bank activities, the incumbent should be proficient in applying risk-based auditing standards, practices, techniques, processes, and methodologies to the audit of the internal controls. Knowledge of Operational Risk, Operational Resilience requirements, and familiarity with Internal Control governance framework is preferred including understanding of Supervision, Surveillance & Monitoring, Trade Floor Supervision, Risk and Control Library etc.
What You’ll Do
- Support a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Lead and assist in design and operating effectiveness testing to verify adequacy of controls for managing operations risks in trading supervision activities (1st line 1B, COO, and GWO) including transaction recording, booking framework, surveillance & monitoring, supervision framework, deal controls, operational resilience, and business continuity.
- Act as an Officer in Charge (OIC) for assigned projects. Execute on time and quality audit plan for primarily for Internal Control, and COO and be involved in coverage of Global Wholesale Operation.
- Define the scope of audits, including alignment with the title and coverage of in-scope processes sufficient to provide holistic assurance, including integration with global processes as applicable.
- Deliver well-crafted and impactful audit issues aligned with the client’s understanding of their environment, identifying clearly the need for meaningful change, with recommendations and expected evidence of remediation that address the established root cause.
- Deliver considered audit opinions, with a balanced rating demonstrating a clear statement of the assurance provided, supported by measured evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of the processes reviewed.
- Assist in the development and execution of a comprehensive and strategic audit plan. Ensure auditable entities remain within the cycle and conduct ongoing monitoring activities to stay abreast of changes (business/industry/regulatory) / emerging risks/themes or systemic issues that may impact the risk assessment of the audit universe and the audit plan. May also execute assigned audit activities independently as a team member under the direction of the OIC on assignments.
- Work with auditors within the audit department to perform end-to-end business line reviews
- Maintain knowledge of the business, regulatory risks and processes for assigned areas.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Responsible for the development of appropriate audit plans/activities for assigned area
- Responsible for reviewing outstanding issues relating to reporting and controls, performing analysis to identify themes, determining the root cause of the weakness, and preparing reports to communicate the test findings.
- Maintain collaborations with global audit teams such as COEs, regional audit teams including Capital Markets, Compliance, Risk Management, and IT to develop a stronger strategy for banking/broker-dealer audit coverage.
- Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders from Internal Control, COO, and Operations including appropriate communication, handling of conflicts, and issue resolution.
- Active engagement and coordination with Stakeholders for audit issue resolution.
- Support the unit’s continuous monitoring program to understand and identify changing conditions within business, risk and corporate functions, keep abreast of changing risk profiles, guide assessment of emerging risks, identify systemic issues and determine current and future audit requirements.

What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years of progressive banking/broker-dealer experience in audit, risk, compliance, and/or capital markets environment specifically coverage of controls such as supervision framework, surveillance & monitoring, risk & controls library, transaction banking, operational resilience, business continuity etc.
- Knowledge of Internal Control, COO, and/or prior auditing experience within these areas is a must.
- Knowledge of Capital Markets products, Wholesale Bank Operations, and/or prior auditing experience within this area is preferred. Exposure in working with traders and/or risk management personnel would be an asset, in addition to an understanding of the US regulatory environment around trading activity and trading operations.
- Strong analytical skills necessary to assess risk exposures and understand risk quantification.
- Ability to quickly understand the risks associated with new products, processes, routines and formulate audit procedures to ensure that the controls are adequate.
- The incumbent should be resourceful, a self-starter, possess a high degree of flexibility, creative thinking and confidence to carry out effective solutions. Well-developed judgment, management, decision-making and problem-solving skills are required to effectively deal with changing, and complex business environments.
- The Manager candidate must possess expert time management skills in order to manage multi-functional accountabilities through prioritization, conflict resolution and the promotion of ideas.
- Excellent written communication skills are essential, with strong issue and audit report writing skills. In addition, the incumbent should be skilled at verbal engagement and presentation, of a caliber suitable for direct exposure to Senior management.
- Interpersonal skills and well-suited acting as a leader in a large team environment to oversee various diverse functional areas and delegate responsibilities to the unit head of each area; and effectively implement change.
- Certification: CPA, CIA, CFA preferred
- Big 4 experience plus
- Postgraduate and MBA plus
