In this role as a Manager,Strategic Initiatives – Risk Reporting, U.S. Risk Management functions include disciplines of Risk, Compliance and Bank Secrecy Act / Anti-Money Laundering (“BSA/AML”), to provide support on the (1) risk reporting including the board and management level risk committee reporting; (2) operations of the U.S. Risk Management department, including setting program strategy and priorities, efficiently and effectively allocating resources, preparing reports and presentations. The Strategic Initiatives team has two mandates – (1) risk committee reporting which includes agenda setting, meeting discussion material preparation, meeting minutes and follow up for action items for various committees; and (2) overall operations of the U.S. Risk Management department, which includes day-to-day strategic support to execute the department’s mandate, and partners with and influences key stakeholders to address a range of critical initiatives for Scotiabank’s U.S. operations.

Is this role right for you? You will be responsible for:
•Leads and provides support for various risk committees and risk updates to other management level committees
•Agenda setting for monthly/quarterly risk committees and risk updates to other non-risk management level committees
•Preparation of meeting presentation materials in coordination with various section owners/data providers
•Review with the committee chair(s) and report owner(s) as appropriate
•Meeting minutes
•Action item trackers and follow up
•Continued efforts to streamline the overall risk reporting processes and reporting contents / presentation
•Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of U.S. Risk Management by providing support on the areas including, but not limited to the following:
•Coordination with local and global BNS Finance teams to forecast monthly, quarterly, and annual budgets to compare  budgets to actuals and recommend potential areas of budget rationalization
•Providing resourcing / staffing support
•Development of communications and change management programs
•Communication of priorities to internal and external stakeholders (e.g. townhall, emails, in-person group meetings, etc.)
•Identification and resolution of issues, including elevating those issues about which the U.S. Chief Risk Officer (“CRO”) and other risk officers should be aware, and framing/positioning ideas to resolve the problem and mitigate risk
•Creation of periodic CRO dashboards and other ad-hoc reports or presentations to keep all levels of management informed of key initiatives, risks, and issues
•Assists in development and implementation of strategic projects for the U.S. Risk Management department, including cross-functional and regulatory initiatives, and stand-alone written products to be sponsored, led, and/or authored by the U.S. Risk Management department; provides strategic support to the U.S. CRO on the firmwide or functional initiatives by providing oversight and guidance to projects of high importance.
•Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
•Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
•Champions a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.

 

Do you have the skills you need to succeed? We'd love to work with you if you have:

 
•3-5 years of experience in financial services industry, preferably in the areas including reporting, governance, policy management, or change management / consulting
•Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
•Strong organizational and communication skills
•Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
•Strong communication skills, both written and oral
•Team player
•Highly organized with an ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment and manage multiple priorities
•Create problem solving and the ability to motivate others and implement new solutions.
