Purpose:

 

The Manager, HRBP contributes to Stakeholders’ success by recommending and implementing client-specific HR solutions that are aligned with business strategies; partnering with HR BP’s locally and globally to ensure HR programs and policies are aligned with Stakeholders’ strategies and are successfully implemented.   Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

The Manager, HRBP is a trainee business partner position, accountable for building and maintaining strong relationships with the business groups they support, under the supervision of the Senior Manager, HR BP.  Partnering with GBM HR, Corporate HR and other key internal partners, the Manager, HRBP will leverage knowledge, best practices and direction of the Senior Manager, HR BP to provide guidance and counsel to Leaders and Management teams, supporting the building and maintenance of a skilled and motivated workforce capable of and committed to, delivering their business strategy. 

 

Under the supervision of the Senior Manager, HRBP, the Manager, HRBP will support the respective teams within their assigned portfolio by providing advice and guidance on sensitive issue including total rewards, performance management, talent, leadership, development, diversity and inclusion, change management and employee engagement.
 


What You’ll Do:

 

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Collaborates with HRBP team and key support functions, contributes to their success in achieving business objectives by building and maintaining a capable workforce that will be committed to delivering Bank’s strategies and promoting Scotiabank as an employer of choice.
  • Providing effective relationship management for stakeholders within assigned client portfolio by:
    • Under the supervision of the Senior Manager, HR BP, building and managing relationships with assigned Stakeholders, gaining a solid understanding of their business strategies, goals and objectives in order to respond to their short and long term needs.
    • Working with Senior Manager, HRBP for the US to determine the major HR implications of the Stakeholders’ strategies and identifying, developing and implementing HR recommendations and solutions to support those strategies and Scotiabank’s goals and objectives.
    • Collaborating with Global Center of Excellence (COE) teams, including Leadership, Total Rewards, Employee Relations and the local HR team in order to support Stakeholders’ with the ever changing HR needs of a diverse, global workforce.
    • Providing sound guidance and monitoring existing Bank programs and processes to ensure they continue to meet Stakeholders’ current and future needs.
  • Providing support on talent, leadership and employee development for stakeholders within assigned client portfolio by:
    • Partnering with Stakeholder Senior Management teams and the Senior Manager, HRBP for the US, when required, to develop and deliver client specific initiatives related to recruitment, leadership resource planning, learning & development, retention & employee engagement.
    • Partnering with Stakeholders’ to ensure smooth execution of the delivery/implementation of new global and local HR programs, policies and initiatives; This includes but it is not limited to: supporting talent calibration, management, leadership and employee development initiatives, improving processes to facilitate more effective coordination and execution of leadership initiatives, and providing advice and counsel.
    • Analyzing and interpreting a wide range of information and metrics to drive decisions and solutions for issues around compensation, employee engagement and diversity and inclusion and prepare or provide input to presentations and reports of observations and recommendations based on findings.
  • Providing support on employee total rewards for stakeholders within assigned client portfolio by:
    • Assisting the Senior Manager HR BP with managing the internal process of compensation negotiations for new hires, liaising with local and matrix business line managers, Total Rewards and GBM HR and ensuring compliance with local regulatory requirements relative to the structuring of compensation packages.
    • Reviewing and analyzing survey results and recommending any changes to ensure employment value offer is competitive and tailored to market trends.
    • Liaising with GBM HR/Total Rewards on all related programs to keep abreast of compensation philosophy and direction.
  • Providing support on employee engagement, diversity and inclusion for stakeholders within assigned client portfolio by:
    • Reviewing and presenting ScotiaPulse Engagement survey results and amalgamated exit interview feedback to assigned leaders within portfolio and partners to enable them to drive their own action plans related to improving employee engagement.
    • Proactively utilizing a wide range of HR data to identify themes/trends and recommend effective HR strategies to meet the business needs and facilitate positive employee engagement
    • Actively participating in roll out of global and local engagement, diversity, equity and inclusion programs.
    • Coordinating and delivering on employee engagement, diversity, inclusion and mental well-being programs, for assigned leaders within portfolio in support of the region’s culture, leadership & employee development approach and the business objectives.
    • Partnering with Senior Manager, HRBP for the US on D&I Committee action items and participating in D&I Committee initiatives for the US.
  • Providing support on performance Management for stakeholders within assigned client portfolio by:
    • To support Bank’s continued focus in becoming a performance-oriented organization, managing the sound administration of the Performance Management, Performance Enhancement and Performance Improvement issues ensuring the fair and equitable application of it.
    • Supporting Stakeholder Management teams with advice and counsel on initiatives to ensure that the Performance Management process is effectively understood and practised locally.
    • Partnering with US Employment Legal and Employee Relations in monitoring all labor practices and policies to ensure equitable treatment for all employees within the legal and social framework of the area.
    • Providing advice and counsel to business leaders in resolving difficult staff relations or interpretation of policies, workings in collaboration with appropriate internal partners and external legal counsel as required.
    • Reviewing all cases regarding recommendations to terminate employees as a result of irregular practices or other serious breaches of the Bank’s Guidelines for Business Conduct.
    • In partnership with Employee Relations, participating in, and contributing to, discussions and meetings involving employees’ involuntary separation from the Bank.
  • Contributing to the broader HR community and to the effective functioning of the United States HR team by:
    • Creating an environment conducive to individual development, productivity and achievement, ensuring open lines of communication.
    • Leading or participating in cross-functional HR working groups and providing input on the design and implementation of all-bank HR programs, policies and procedures to ensure programs meet Stakeholder needs.
    • Partnering with the Senior Manager, HRBP for the US to identify, champion and implement learning solutions to close gaps and/or enhance performance, employee engagement or implement change.
    • Actively participating in discussions with local and global HR on designing programs for applicants and employees of all backgrounds and to permit the full development and performance of all employees.
       


What You’ll Bring:

 

  • 2-4 years of relevant HR experience (preferably financial services or banking industry) 
  • Undergraduate degree, preferably with focus on business/human resources or work related experience

Skills and Abilities

  • Good understanding of the assigned stakeholder groups from a business and organizational perspective including matrix relationships and geographies.
  • Good knowledge of the Global Human Resources function and each area’s business objectives, U.S. policies / regulations and internal operating environment.
  • Thorough understanding of the Bank’s Leadership strategy.
  • Good business acumen to be able to align business objectives and HR strategies with corporate goals to maximize shareholder value.
  • Strong relationship building, influencing and customer service skills to build effective partnerships and having the ability to work with all levels of management.
  • Results focused with the ability to evaluate options/alternatives and develop solutions/recommendations to sometimes complex and multi-dimensional problems/issues.
  • Intuitive and forward thinking with strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills and proven ability to successfully deliver / implement / execute initiatives, processes and policies.
  • Proficient computing skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
