In this role, you will contribute to the overall success of the Human Resources in U.S. ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. You will ensure all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. You will be responsible for administering all benefit plans for U.S. employees, as well as partnering with Global Total Rewards and external benefit vendors on review and design of current and future programs.

 

Is this role right for you? You will be responsible for:

  • Championing a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
  • Conducting analysis and contribute to strategy, design, benchmarking and reporting of benefit programs in conjunction with Total Rewards and external Benefits partners and consultants
  • Acting as an escalation channel working with employees and/or vendors to research and resolve claims and eligibility issues
  • Governing benefit information through online systems, including initiating new hire benefits enrollment and recording changes
  • Ensuring benefit programs are designed within consideration of needs, cost-efficiency, competitive positioning, emerging industry trends and innovations, governance and best practices. Products and programs include (but not limited to) group insurance benefits for active employees and retirees, leaves of absence, vacation, wellness, EFAP and other employee benefit programs
  • Conducting annual Open Enrollment for benefit selection and provide employee support where needed, including all healthcare, life and accident insurance options
  • Organizing ongoing educational workshops and wellness efforts for employees in conjunction with external vendors
  • Remaining cognizant of all legislative changes and market trends for healthcare to ensure our plans meet the preset mandates for quality and affordable care, in coordination with Total Rewards, Towers Watson and additional external benefit providers
  • Understanding how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
  • Actively pursuing effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk
  • Championing a high performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment
  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with internal stakeholders, as well as the various business lines, relationship management teams, and compensation colleagues to ensure benefit programs meet business needs and objectives. Where applicable, provide benefit expertise in support of business strategies including mergers, acquisitions and outsource initiatives. Provide consultative services on matters of benefit policy rationale, interpretation and application, including contract review, educational materials and employee presentations

 

Do you have the skills you need to succeed? We'd love to work with you, if you have:

  • A minimum 7-8 years of Benefits management  
  • An undergraduate degree, preferably with focus on business/human resources
  • Experience in financial services preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated analytical and conceptual thinking capabilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state regulations and ability to apply them to administration/compliance of plans, including FMLA, NYPFL, ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, Social Security and DOL requirements
  • The ability to work both autonomously with established practices and to work cooperatively with others
  • Strong personal initiative and achievement motivation
