OVERVIEW:

The 2020 Scotiabank Summer Internship program is designed to provide undergraduate and graduate students with a stimulating and challenging opportunity in a growing organization. Students will gain first hand exposure to careers within the bank by working within one of our divisions located in the heart of the Financial District in New York City.

Our 11 week internship will provide hands on experience to various aspects of our international bank by working closely with experienced professionals. We are looking for students that want to use their qualitative and quantitative skills and connect what they learn in the classroom to real life assignments and projects.

You will get involved in ongoing business projects and work side by side with our professionals. You will be encouraged to speak up and take initiative on specific projects and be part of an amazing team. The program will also include personal development opportunities such as Lunch & Learns, a mentorship program and other team building activities to enhance your experience over the summer.

U.S. LEGAL DEPARTMENT:

The Legal Intern will be a core member of the U.S. Legal Department by providing support to the department’s transactional, litigation, and corporate secretarial functions.

• Transactional – assisting counsel with drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of contracts, such as non-disclosure/confidentiality agreements, third-party vendor agreements, and lending agreements.

• Litigation – assisting counsel with managing new and ongoing litigation and regulatory inquiries and investigations and responding to subpoenas and other legal processes.

• Corporate Secretarial Functions – providing support to the Corporate Secretary with governance of U.S. subsidiaries and preparing for board meetings.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

• Currently pursuing a JD degree at an ABA accredited law school

• Strong record of academic and extracurricular achievements

• Proven interest in Global Capital Markets and banking

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills

• Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new situations

• Strong work ethic and ability to work both autonomously and within a team
