TITLE: Director - U.S. Tax Planning, Front Office & IRW Advisory

 

DUTIES: The Bank of Nova Scotia seeks Director - U.S. Tax Planning, Front Office & IRW Advisory in New York, NY to provide clear, timely, and accurate us tax analysis, risk assessment, and tax planning, consistent with the bank’s reputational risk appetite. monitor the developments of new capital markets or other business-related strategies or structures. Provide advice and support related to us tax operational risks associated with us tax information, withholding, and reporting rules. Support the transfer pricing team in EO tax and assist in preparing responses to transfer pricing inquiries from us tax authorities. Develop relationships with other control functions in New York office, as well as the business lines and relevant head office personnel. Monitor changes to us tax law and administration, consider implications therefrom, and provide support regarding appropriate guidance and counsel to executives. Review the ISDA tax language. Review the 871(m) language on notes issuances and swaps. Provide advice to the us information reporting and withholding tax team. Provide us tax analysis on corporate actions. Provide support with any special project that may arise that may require U.S. tax advice.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Tax, Accounting or a related field and six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in the job offered or related occupation: utilizing tax research tools including Bloomberg Tax, RIA checkpoint, and LexisNexis to conduct research on tax laws and regulations including case laws and tax treaties; drafting tax memos and comments; drafting, reviewing, and negotiating tax language in legal agreements; performing U.S. tax planning, advisory and risk management for financial intuitions, financial products, and capital market transactions; and managing and coordinating with external tax advisors and reviewing their work. Telecommuting and/or working from home may be permissible pursuant to company policies. When not telecommuting, must report to work site. In the alternative, the employer will accept a Master’s degree in one of the above-listed fields and four (4) years of experience in the above-listed skills.

 

Offered salary is between $292,427 to $292,427 per year. 40 hours per week.
